The Research Department of Primary Care and Population Health at UCL is part of the Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care and is co-led by Professor Greta Rait and Professor Kate Walters.

About the role

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Research Support Service (RSS) hub delivered by Imperial College London (ICL), University College London (UCL), Queen Mary University London (QMUL) and King's College London (KCL) (NIHR RSS ICL and Partners) provides researchers with access to support, advice and expertise in the development and delivery of clinical and applied health and care research.



The National Strategic Lead for Methods Development will provide expert leadership to coordinate, develop, and enhance methodological research across NIHR RSS hubs nationally. The post-holder will create innovative approaches to develop research methods initiatives, facilitate Communities of Practice (CoPs), and support knowledge exchange with NIHR panels and funding bodies about emerging methodological advances.

This is a fixed term contract with external funding until

30th September 2028

in the first instance. This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.

This role requires an individual with exceptional expertise in qualitative research methods, mixed-methods approaches, public and community involvement strategies, and cross-institutional collaboration. The post-holder will need a proven ability to build networks across diverse stakeholders, coordinate complex methodological initiatives, and develop strategic frameworks that enhance research methods across the NIHR ecosystem.
