Portsmouth Women's Football Club is seeking a passionate and experienced

Physical Performance Coach

to join our

Pro Game Academy (PGA)

. In this key role, you will be responsible for the physical development and injury prevention strategies that support the next generation of elite female footballers.

Your key responsibilities will include:



Player Development & Performance Strategy:



Plan and deliver individualised gym-based and field-based strength & conditioning programmes. Conduct player profiling and monitoring alongside the 1st Team PPC to inform development strategies. Integrate injury prevention and physical development programmes into the wider football training schedule. Lead on GPS data preparation, tracking, and reporting.

Rehabilitation & Injury Prevention:



Collaborate closely with the PGA Physiotherapist/Sports Therapist to develop reconditioning pathways for injured players. Influence player pre-activation routines and long-term injury mitigation strategies. Analyse injury trends and proactively adjust prevention frameworks to reduce injury risk.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration:



Work within a high-functioning MDT including physios, coaches, medical, and analytical staff. Support football staff in decision-making related to player availability and physical readiness. Contribute to pre-signing medical assessments and attend consultations when needed.

Innovation & Continued Development:



Keep up to date with research and best practices in women's and girls' sports performance. Contribute to the club's Research & Innovation (R&I) strategy. Undertake required qualifications and CPD as outlined by the league (e.g. UKSCA).

What We're Looking For:



Essential Qualifications:



BSc in Sports Science or related field UKSCA or UKNSCA accreditation (or working towards) - club can offer support if required Full, clean driving licence

Desirable:



MSc (completed or in progress) EFAiF (Emergency First Aid in Football)

What You Bring:



We are looking for a practitioner with a strong foundation in elite sport, ideally within a professional football environment, who can bring the following:

Minimum of 3 years' experience working within an elite sports setting, delivering high-performance support to athletes. Proven experience in the use of GPS systems to monitor and analyse player performance, workload, and physical output. A track record of effective collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team --to deliver integrated athlete care and development. A solid understanding of the demands and culture of a professional football environment, with a clear ability to adapt and thrive in a performance-focused setting. Experience in developing and implementing innovative training solutions, using evidence-based methods to enhance player performance and long-term development. Clinical experience in assessing, diagnosing, and rehabilitating neuromuscular and orthopaedic injuries in elite athletes, ensuring safe and progressive returns to play. Skilled in modifying training and rehab programmes to meet individual needs, demonstrating advanced clinical reasoning and player-centred thinking. Experience designing and delivering profiling and screening protocols to guide performance plans and inform injury prevention strategies. A proactive approach to injury prevention, with practical experience applying preventative strategies in a professional sporting environment.
