Role Summary
The Technical Procurement Specialist is responsible for leading the procurement and control of composite materials supply chain - including carbon fibre, resins, adhesives, and related consumables - to support manufacturing and engineering operations across the business.
This role ensures materials are available when required, accurately issued, and stored in accordance with company procedures and industry standards. The position demands exceptional attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a sound understanding of supply chain and material control processes within a composite manufacturing environment.
The role holder will act as the link between production, engineering, and supply chain teams, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance across all material handling and logistics activities.
Key Responsibilities
Issue materials to production lines and manage returns, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and traceable within the ERP system.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels, conduct routine stock checks, and implement effective stock rotation practices.
Liaise with the supply chain team and external suppliers to ensure timely delivery of composite materials and consumables, resolving any supply-related issues.
Locate, pack, and prepare materials for internal transfers or external dispatch, ensuring compliance with handling, packaging, and shipping standards.
Maintain accurate documentation, including batch records, usage reports, and traceability logs; compile and submit material consumption and stock reports.
Ensure all materials conform to AS9100 and internal quality requirements. Assist in COSHH documentation, risk assessments, and storage compliance.
Support the procurement team in developing cost-effective sourcing strategies and identifying opportunities to optimise inventory usage and reduce waste.
Maintain a safe, tidy, and compliant materials storage area, following all safety and environmental protocols.
Work closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to ensure material availability supports production schedules and development projects.
Support continuous improvement of material control processes and participate in training to enhance knowledge of new materials, technologies, and handling methods.
Person Specification / Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
Proven experience in materials control, logistics, or a technical support role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Knowledge of composite materials and associated handling and storage requirements.
Understanding of composite manufacturing processes and material traceability standards.
Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality assurance.
Competence in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with internal teams and external suppliers.
Commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance.
Desirable:
Experience in aerospace, automotive, or advanced composites industries.
Qualification in Materials Management, Manufacturing, or Engineering (NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
Knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality standards.
Familiarity with COSHH regulations and safe material handling practices.
Experience in developing or implementing stock management systems or procedures.
