Role Summary



To support our core focus initiative of 'Innovation', our Research and Development team is expanding. We are recruiting an additional

Product Development Scientist

to strengthen our ability to continue to shape the future of nutraceuticals by delivering unrivalled innovation to support customers.

Key duties include managing formulation and stability studies, conducting research on new technologies and raw materials, analysing data, validating processes, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and preparing the highest quality products for commercial production.

Key Responsibilities



Research and Innovation:



Conduct thorough research on new ingredients, emerging technologies, and industry trends. Identify and evaluate new raw materials, potential suppliers, and innovative manufacturing processes. Develop new concepts for nutraceutical products based on ideation techniques and market awareness.

Formulation and Development:



Lead the formulation and development of new products. Developing new nutraceutical formulations, considering ingredients, dosages, and delivery systems. Manage and conduct stability studies and efficacy tests to ensure product quality. Design and conduct complex experiments to maximise learning and product value.

Process Optimisation:



Improve existing manufacturing processes, including raw material selection, equipment modifications, and process parameters to perfect scale-up operations. Develop and implement quality control measures to monitor and maintain product quality throughout the development and full-scale manufacturing process.

Testing and Validation:



Develop, test, and validate products for commercial release. Conduct trials and experiments to validate new processes and ensure they meet quality and regulatory standards with the ability to translate laboratory-scale processes into large-scale manufacturing. Design and validate methods to assess product performance and support product claims.

Collaboration and Compliance:



Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Commercial, Marketing, Production, Procurement) to ensure seamless product development and launch. Monitor production performance and ensure compliance with regulatory standards, safety protocols, and industry legislation.

Data Analysis and Reporting:



Record, analyse, and interpret data from experiments and studies. Generate data to support marketing and sales successes.
The ideal candidate will possess the skillset to combine scientific and technical expertise in areas such as, formulation science, analytical chemistry, and clinical trials with strong innovation, creativity, and a consumer-centric mindset. Key characteristics include, regulatory knowledge, market understanding, sensory evaluation skills, strong analytical abilities, and a collaborative approach to drive a multidisciplinary development process from concept to market.

Skills/Experience/Qualifications



The role of

Product Development Scientist

is multifaceted and requires both industry-specific qualifications and technical abilities. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

Formal Education:



Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent qualifications in Food Science, Nutrition, Biochemistry, or related field. Ideally, HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) certification and other Food Safety Management System (FSMS) certifications.

Experience:



Experience in a manufacturing environment; ideally from nutraceutical, FMCG, pharmaceutical or food industries. Fundamental knowledge of formulation, ingredient sourcing, and product development processes, including experience with various supplement formats (ideally powders, capsules, tablets, coated tablets, gummies, softgels). Understanding of manufacturing processes, systems, and relevant quality management systems within the food manufacturing sector.
