Product Support Engineer

Crawley

Our Opportunity:

  • Acting as a point of contact for engineering queries relating to any aspect of the products
  • Originating and implementing design changes to the products and related facilities
  • Providing technical advice and assistance to other business and engineering functions and to the user community
  • Applying product knowledge to other programmes and to the acquisition of new business.
What the role has to offer:

Within the defined timescales, costs and technical requirements specified, to perform all of the following:
  • To have technical familiarity with the products\xe2\x80\x99 design and implementation
  • To be knowledgeable about the techniques and technologies used in the design and implementation of the product
  • To have understanding of the domain in which the product will be used and the imperatives of the user and customer communities
  • To address obsolescence, reliability and supportability issues arising in the product
  • To initiate, approve and advise on the embodiment of changes to the products to (a) address supportability events and (b) improve the utility (functionality, performance, and supportability) of the products
  • To provide technical expertise to manufacturing, test, and repair activities which relate to the products and to effect improvements to the processes and related equipment
  • to provide engineering advice and direction to subcontractors and assume responsibility for engineering aspects of procurement
  • To organise and lead the execution of the above tasks where a team of people is required to conduct them, managing the work into which he / she has divided it, using allocated resources and with responsibility for identifying changes in resource requirements and seeking / negotiating a share of common resources.
  • To represent the company in technical interactions with external organisations which concern the products Ensure that any assumptions and dependencies associated with the solutions are identified, recorded and maintained.
Additionally, to have the capability to perform all of the following:
  • To initiate, approve, issue and present any documentation covering this work
  • To produce estimates for packages of work.
  • To plan, control and co-ordinate the work in order to produce designs on time and to the specified requirement by one or more of the following:
  • Motivating and managing a team to produce desired objectives.
  • Pro-actively monitoring and assessing the performance of sub-contractors
  • To disseminate product knowledge and product application within the company
  • To liaise with other team members, project teams, disciplines, groups and subcontractors on technical and programme matters.
  • To undertake feasibility studies and the preparation of proposals and tenders, co-ordinating the activity of supporting staff as required
  • To develop any assigned staff through coaching and to provide learning opportunities for assigned staff based on the product and its support and deployment
  • To ensure effective collaboration between engineering and other disciplines in the execution of all works relating to the product
  • To ensure that designs are developed, documented, tested, controlled and maintained in accordance with company procedures.
  • To provide progress reports as required by company procedures and practice
  • To participate in visits / trials and represent the company on / off site where necessary
  • To ensure compliance with all company safety and security procedures
About you:
  • A - Aware: The person is able to understand the key issues and their implications. They are able to ask relevant and constructive questions on the subject. This level is aimed at roles that interface with TLSE and therefore require an understanding of the TLSE role.
  • SP - Supervised Practitioner: The person displays an understanding of the subject but requires guidance and supervision. This level defines those engineers who are \xe2\x80\x9cin-training\xe2\x80\x9d or are inexperienced in that particular competency.
  • P - Practitioner: The person displays detailed knowledge of the subject and is capable of providing guidance and advice to others
  • E - Expert: The person displays extensive and substantial practical experience and applied knowledge of the subject.
  • Note: To be read in conjunction with the associated behavioral competence document
  • Degree qualifications in an electronics subject (desirable)
  • Ex-Forces background as a technical subject matter expert.
  • HND qualification would also be suitable with commensurate experience.
