Diffusion Alloys is a UK SME and global specialist in the application of high-performance protective coatings, supporting a wide range of industries including clean tech and energy. As we continue to expand our facility in Middlesbrough, we are recruiting an Production and Purchasing Coordinator to help drive efficiency, reliability, and quality across key areas of our business.
This role is ideally suited to someone with experience in logistics, purchasing, and operations support -- looking to step up into a more strategic, cross-functional position in a growing business.
Purpose of the Role
To manage the efficient flow of customer products, materials, and services across our Middlesbrough site, while ensuring compliance with international trade regulations and supporting the smooth running of production. The role includes responsibility for logistics, customs documentation, purchasing, and basic QA/QC coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Logistics & Trade Compliance
Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments, including liaison with freight partners and customs brokers
Prepare and manage all documentation required for imports and exports, including packing lists, commercial invoices, and customs declarations
Maintain accurate commodity codes, Incoterms, and product origin data for customs compliance
Administer and monitor Inward Processing Relief (IPR) processes where applicable
Ensure VAT treatment is correctly applied for cross-border transactions
Maintain records to support HMRC compliance (e.g. Intrastat, shipping logs)
Production Coordination & Scheduling
Support daily production planning to meet customer deadlines
Ensure availability of labour, materials, and capacity
Communicate schedules to internal teams and customers
Adjust plans in response to delays or changing requirements
Procurement & Inventory Management
Purchase raw materials, consumables, and engineering supplies in line with production needs
Maintain supplier records, track deliveries, and monitor pricing and budget variances
Manage stock levels and organise regular inventory checks
Raise POs & coordinate deliveries.
What We're Looking For
Essential
3-5 years in logistics, trade compliance, purchasing or operations support
Understanding of customs, commodity codes, and trade documentation
Familiar with Incoterms, import/export VAT treatment, and basic customs regimes (e.g. IPR)
Highly organised and numerate, with strong attention to detail
Confident communicator with internal and external stakeholders
Proficient in Excel and comfortable with ERP or purchasing systems
Desirable
Experience with Sage 50 or similar systems
Exposure to ISO 9001 or similar QA systems
Experience coordinating maintenance or calibration activities
Background in manufacturing, engineering or industrial supply chain
