Job Description

At Sheffield Forgemasters we have an exciting opportunity for a Production Fitter to join our Machine Shops department.



This role is based at our 64-acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield. Our Machine Shops offer rough machining and finish machining to exacting tolerances, including complex shapes such as reactor heads for nuclear applications. The department hosts a vast array of milling, turning, boring and finishing machinery including the UK's largest Vertical Turning Lathe and Horizontal Floor Borer.



As a Production Fitter, you will assemble, fit and install parts to use in large components and machinery.

What you'll be doing

Working to technical drawings.


Measuring and inspecting, using equipment such as micrometers, verniers, pi tapes, slip packs and component specific gauging packages.


Manufacturing small bespoke items in the tool room area by turning, milling and surface grinding.


Bench fitting using a variety of hand tools.


Performing hydraulic testing.


Hardness testing.


Assisting with training / mentoring of apprentices.


Crane and forklift truck driving.

About You

Ideally apprentice trained in an engineering discipline.


Previous experience in a similar role.


Proficient in the use of pneumatic / handheld tools.


Ability to read and understanding technical drawings.


Competent in the use of micrometers, verniers and slip packs.


Trained and experienced in crane and forklift truck driving.

The Working Pattern

This is a full-time role working 37.75 hours per week: Mornings - Monday - Friday 06:00 - 14:00. Nights - Monday-Thursday 20:00 - 06:00.
