The Vacancy
At Sheffield Forgemasters we have an exciting opportunity for a Production Fitter to join our team.
This role is based at our 64-acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield, and will be working as part of our Work Rolls department. Our Work Rolls department produces forged steel rolls in our custom-built steel processing facility, that is among the most advanced, dedicated forged roll plants in the world.
As a Production Fitter, you will carry out hardness testing of Work Rolls & Gun Barrels and production fitting work in the manufacturing unit.
What you'll be doing

• Hardness test preparation using powered abrasive tools and polishing equipment.
• Hardness testing using Vickers Diamond Indentors and Equotip digital devices.
• Heat shrink fitting of neck rings for work roll manufacture.
• Heat shrink and cold freeze fitting of plugs / bushes for roll manufacture.
• Trimming, blending and polishing of work rolls.
• Mechanical fitting of accessories such as keys, bayonet, pod ends.
• MIG welding process for hard facing of work roll abutment faces.
• Operating Toolroom Machinery to manufacture small parts - turning, milling, bandsaw, surface grinder, cut off, etc.
• Crane & Shunter driving.
• Fork Lift Truck driving.

About You

• Engineering Apprenticeship qualification.
• Experience of working in similar heavy engineering / manufacturing environment.
• Experience of working in a bench fitting role and using tool room machinery.
• Good knowledge and understanding of the importance Health and Safety in the workplace.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Evidence of aptitude working with hand tools.

The Working Pattern
This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday. We offer flexibility in our start and finish times between 06:15 - 09:30 and 14:30 - 18:00.
