The role
The Production Supervisor oversees daily production operations in the panel-processing area, including saw, edge bander, and laminator departments. This role ensures safe work practices, consistent product quality, efficient production flow, and strong team performance. The supervisor is hands-on and actively supports machine setup, troubleshooting, and operator training.
So, what will you be doing? Here is an overview of your core responsibilities:
Safety
Enforce all safety policies, machine-guarding procedures, and PPE requirements.
Conduct daily safety huddles and ensure proper lockout/tagout practices.
Identify hazards, respond to incidents, and lead corrective actions.
Risk assessment and training documentation reviews
Quality
Oversee quality checks on cut panels, edge-banded components, and laminated materials.
Ensure adherence to specifications, drawings, and work instructions.
Troubleshoot defects such as poor adhesion, chipping, alignment issues, or surface flaws.
Work with QA teams to maintain an RFT approach
Production & Equipment
Supervise production activities on all machinery
Support operators with machine setup, blade changes, glue adjustments, temperature settings, and calibration.
Monitor output, cycle times, and equipment performance to meet daily production goals.
Minimize downtime through proactive troubleshooting and basic maintenance support.
Cost Control
Reduce material waste through proper cutting, edging, and laminating techniques.
Optimize consumable usage (blades, glue, laminate sheets, edging tape).
Control overtime and ensure efficient use of labour resources.
Delivery
Maintain production schedules and ensure on-time completion of work orders.
Coordinate workflow across departments to prevent bottlenecks.
Communicate daily progress and issues to planning and management teams.
People & Leadership
Supervise, train, and coach machine operators and production staff.
Cross-train employees to increase flexibility and maintain coverage.
Conduct performance evaluations and address attendance or behavioural issues.
Lead daily SQCDP meetings to align the team on safety, quality, and performance priorities
What are we looking for in a Production Supervisor?
3+ years of experience in manufacturing or wood/panel fabrication.
Strong hands-on experience with saws, edge banders, and laminators.
Previous leadership or lead-hand experience preferred.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and team-building skills.
