Job Overview


We are looking for a skilled and motivated Production Technician to join our production team in Newick. Reporting to the Production Manager, you will play a vital role in the assembly, testing, and preparation of engines, gearboxes, and associated mechanical assemblies. You will be responsible for ensuring that all build and test activities meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and delivery.

This is a hands-on role that requires attention to detail, technical expertise, and a commitment to continuous improvement in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities



Assembly & Production


Follow standard operating procedures accurately to meet quality and safety standards.

Complete production activities for engines, gearboxes, and associated assemblies.

Record engine build documentation and assembly data as required.

Support design and process improvements by providing feedback to the Production Manager.

Conduct builds, reworks, and repairs in line with the delivery schedule.

Engine BIPO Procedures



Carry out all Break In Pass Off (BIPO) processes with precision, ensuring compliance with OEM and regulatory standards.

Safely load and unload engines using appropriate lifting and rigging equipment.

Install and remove engine dress kits, maintaining accurate records of all parts used.

Conduct full BIPO test cycles, monitoring system parameters and addressing anomalies in real time.

Accurately log all test data for technical review and audit purposes.

Clean engines post-test and prepare for dispatch, ensuring packaging meets shipping and quality standards.

Standards & Compliance



Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies.

Maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Notify the Production Manager promptly of part or equipment defects.

Demonstrate punctuality and readiness at the start of each shift.

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience



Experience in mechanical assembly, ideally with engines or related systems.

Understanding of internal combustion engines (petrol and diesel).

Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately and thoroughly.

Proficiency with a wide range of hand tools and production equipment.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and bills of materials.

Experience using diagnostic tools and operating test cells.

Problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex engine issues.

Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams).

Desirable Skills & Experience



BTEC, City & Guilds Level 3, or equivalent in engineering or automotive discipline.

5+ years of experience as a mechanical or engineering technician.

Experience in the automotive or marine industries.

Familiarity with continuous improvement practices.

Ability to carry out service work on vessels, including outboard fitting and sealing.
