About the role



Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Professional Competence & Digital Development Lead to join our growing team.



Base location for this role can be flexible - UK trave is required

What you'll be doing




Develop the Job Family Development Strategy and Action Plan -

Lead the professional development strategy to form key plank of BB's skills pipeline, aligning more closely to longer term business needs on skills and supporting retention and employee engagement (chartership pathways, accreditations, apprenticeships, and professional development on graduate programmes)

Create clear Career and Development Paths

-

ensure that the career and development path for each job family is structured, clear and accessible to all employees increasing retention and internal promotion. Using AI create an approach to bring the role Framework to life for employees to navigate their competence requirements, career and development needs

Lead on Balfour Beatty's approach to Competency -

including our strategy, collaboration with those responsible for the Competency layers and the system to record and report on competency, working with IT.

Capitalise on BB's expertise and reputation by bringing Job Family training programmes in house -

starting with Project Management create an internally run, best in class programme to bring employees into and move up through the Project Management roles up to and including Mega Project Director


Funding (inc Growth & Skills) -

Enable bigger picture/longer term thinking on using


funding to develop priority skills and roles, ensuring we structure our training approach to maximise levy/grant opportunities. Develop expertise on Government policy, external thinking, best practice - be the Balfour Beatty thought leader on professional and competence skills strategy, approach, representing us in this area internally and externally

E-learning Governance & Management -

manage the UK wide Steer Co to drive the


strategy for compliance e-modules. Manage the governance and process for e-learning collaborating with SMEs and Exco members

Digital tools, technology and resources -

deliver the embedment of Co-pilot through


training. Embrace digital learning tools and new technology and embed usage throughout the L&D team

Be a Champion for 'Grow our Own' -

as part of L&D Leadership team create a strong


narrative around our investment in skills and capability building as a reason to join Balfour Beatty, and a reason to stay (comms, engagement, case studies, external voice) and to support work winning


Manage associated budgets and resources-

to deliver high-impact programmes that


support long-term talent pipelines and critical skill areas.

Strategic Planning Commercial acumen (funding, structuring of training, supplier approach) Business Partnering with leaders Data Analysis Problem Solving Business Acumen Negotiation and Conflict resolution Leadership and Mentorship Project Management Change Management Collaboration Excellent verbal and written communication skills Presenting and Facilitating

Knowledge




Degree in HR, Psychology, Business, or related field; or equivalent CIPD or business experience Budgets and cost control Data management and processes Leadership development solutions, models and methods of learning Deep understanding of adult learning, behavioural science, and leadership theory, experiential learning cycle and Kirkpatrick evaluation model. Microsoft suite including Power Point, Excel, Planner, Teams, Word and Co-pilot Learning Management software and various technologies and tools that support

remote and blended learning environments.


Experience




Proven experience in designing and delivering leadership development at scale in complex organisations (including blended and digital learning). Using data and insight to inform and strengthen approach. Extensive experience of working in a commercial learning and development /

organisational effectiveness professional role within a complex, multi-contracted


diverse culture
Strong strategic thinking (both 'big picture' and longer term) with ability to

translate vision into actionable plans and measure results
Extensive experience of design, delivery and evaluation of a full range of learning portfolio (including blended learning), encompassing leadership, management, professional and culture. Managing budgets, suppliers, partners
