Job Description

The Professional Standards Officer will be an important member of the Operations Directorate, and will have professional accountability to the People Directorate. You will undertake highly complex and sensitive investigations of varying nature, inclusive of investigations that arise from the implementation of the sexual safety charter, and in conjunction with the Trust's Policies and Procedures. You will be a proactive member of the team and will be diligent in their delivery/outputs whilst managing complex case work and deliver the required outputs to the required quality standards.
The Professional Standards Officer will plan and co-ordinate (potentially several simultaneous) investigations and conduct interviews ensuring that timescales are met, in accordance with the relevant service level agreements that are outlined in Trust policies.
Main duties of the job
The Professional Standards Officer will prepare detailed and impartial formal Investigation Reports following each investigation in line with Trust policies, whilst always adhering to the Trust's values and behaviours and ensure all they come into contact with are supported through the process that is being undertaken.
Be able to analyse, triangulate and make reference to lots of information as there may be many witness statements with contradictory information to be considered.
To attend and present information at internal formal hearings, appeals and if required, externally at employment tribunal hearings, which may be complex and contentious.
Be comfortable working to deadlines and will work flexibly to meet with staff in a time and place they feel comfortable to engage. You will interview accused/complainants/witnesses in a fair, unbiased, compassionate, and non-judgemental manner.
Recognise that interviewees may be guarded and uncooperative, emotional, angry, or upset and skilfully manage any hostile, emotive atmosphere. To then encourage interviewees to trust in the process, and ensure that accurate statements are taken to support the investigation process.
Attend just and learning culture forums to ensure quality improvement approach with investigations and subsequent panel outcomes.
Support Operations Officers to undertake complex investigations arising from In-Phase concerns.
