The School of Applied Sciences (SOAS) is a highly successful, dynamic and evolving School comprising approximately 100 academic and research staff and over 60 PGR researchers. The School delivers a cohesive portfolio of science courses and CPD that enables multidisciplinary working and encourages a problem-solving mindset. It is supported by three UWE Research Centres: the Centre for Biomedical Research (CBR), the Science Communication Unit (SCU), the Centre for Sustainable Agri-food and Environment (SAFE), and the Institute of Biosensing Technology (IBST). The School has state-of-the-art research facilities, including recently refurbished molecular biology laboratories, cell culture facilities, an imaging suite, a human analysis laboratory, an electron microscope unit, and specialised facilities for biosensor development.



The School of Applied Sciences has a successful and growing portfolio of health-related programmes and research. It has a long and successful history of delivering programmes in Biomedical Sciences and, more recently, has developed a highly successful MSc in Health Technology and an MSc in Applied Transfusion and Transplant Science in collaboration with NHS Blood and Transplant. The School is a proud recipient of an Athena SWAN Silver Award, and its commitment to fostering gender equality is reflected in ongoing initiatives focused on workload management, flexible working, and career development.



Within the College, the School of Health and Social Wellbeing (SHSW) also has a well-established reputation for delivering a range of health and allied health courses, including nursing, paramedic science, and radiography, as well as the highly successful Independent Prescribing course.



We are seeking a

Professor of Pharmacy

to lead the development of Pharmacy at UWE Bristol. This strategic initiative includes establishing a new MPharm programme and concurrently developing related Professional Development (CPD) courses. You will lead the Pharmacy subject group and will be responsible for managing a team of pharmacy academic staff. A key initial responsibility will be overseeing the development of the new MPharm programme, which is currently progressing through the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) accreditation process.



The Professor of Pharmacy will be a member of the

College of Health, Science and Society (CHSS)

and, while based within the School of Applied Sciences, will work across the College. CHSS is a large, diverse, and dynamic part of the University with an extensive research portfolio, spanning fundamental, applied, and practice-oriented research. This is supported through a number of established Research Centres. The College's research activities are funded by UK Research Councils, Innovate UK, the National Institute for Health Research, local businesses, national and international industry, the European Commission, and other competitive funding bodies.


About the role:





You will be expected to hold a PhD in a relevant subject area, or a Master's qualification with significant professional practice. At UWE, Professors are recognised for their distinction, standing, and leadership within their discipline or professional field. In this role, you will be expected to make a significant contribution and demonstrate excellence in research that delivers real-world impact.



As Professor of Pharmacy, you will lead the Pharmacy subject group, managing a team of academic staff and guiding the development of the MPharm programme. This programme has recently passed a successful Step One event and is now progressing towards Step Two of the GPhC accreditation process.



You will also play a key role in advancing research within the field, helping to grow the School's research activity and outputs. Through your external networks, you will be well positioned to expand the pharmacy portfolio, particularly by developing new CPD opportunities that meet the needs of the sector.



Preference will be given to those with a strong track record of research in areas such as:
Pharmacogenomics and personalised prescribing Cancer biology, including novel therapeutics Patient engagement and service user evaluation Pharmacy education Or other closely related research areas.
Ideally, you will bring experience in academic curriculum design and programme development. As a registered pharmacy professional with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), you'll be familiar with the MPharm (Curriculum 2021) and have a strong understanding of GPhC standards, including experience of working to meet them.

This is a permanent post and is full-time working on a 100 percent contract.
