Project Description: The Health, Medicine and Society (HMS) program and Ascend, policy programs at the Aspen Institute based in Washington, DC, are undertaking a two-phase initiative to develop and implement a comprehensive standard of care for the perinatal period (defined as prenatal care through 12-months post-partum). The goal of the initiative is to establish a standard of care designed both to achieve an "optimal outcome for all" yet be implemented based on the needs of specific populations, especially those most marginalized. Although attempts have been made to do pieces of this work (e.g., standards for prenatal care or the post-partum period), no such all-inclusive standard currently exists for the pregnant and parenting person and their baby as the focus.

Phase I of the project is structured to gather and provide background information to set the stage for developing the comprehensive standard of care (Phase II). This position will play a pivotal role in addressing the maternal and infant health crisis by coordinating research, stakeholder engagement, and managing two roundtable discussions that will inform the development of perinatal standards.

The project manager will be responsible for directing and coordinating all Phase I planning activities in consultation with HMS and Ascend leadership. This will include managing the development of the "state-of-the-field" landscape analysis of perinatal care in the US and a journey mapping report. The project manager will plan and manage two roundtable listening sessions at the Aspen Institute in Washington, DC, engaging diverse stakeholders, including clinical and non-clinical leaders, community organizations, and individuals with lived experience. Finally, the project manager will develop a comprehensive work plan and timeline for Phase II, and any needed reports and presentations for leadership, stakeholders, and funders.

Qualifications

? Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in public health, health policy, social work, or

related field preferred

? Minimum 5 years of experience in project management, preferably in maternal health, public health, or related fields with a demonstrated understanding of maternal and infant health issues, with knowledge of health equity challenges

? Strong analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills

? Experience working with diverse communities and centering equity in project implementationDesired Skills and Experience

? Experience working with both clinical and non-clinical health organizations

? Knowledge of the maternal health landscape in the US, including key organizations and leaders

? Background in health policy, systems change, or healthcare quality improvement

? Experience with journey mapping or similar human-centered design methodologies

? Prior work in coalition-building or multi-stakeholder initiatives

? Understanding of insurance systems, certification requirements, and policy mechanisms related to maternal and infant care

Deliverables:

? Biweekly updates for the project team

? Manage project contacts, partners, and provide coordination among all partners

? Oversee the development of the journey mapping and landscape analysis reports

? Plan and oversee two round-table discussion, one in Fall 2025 and one in Spring 2026

? Develop a comprehensive work plan and timeline for Phase II

? Draft grant proposals and other funding materials for Phase II as needed

Timeline: Contracted period will run from approximately June 2025 - May 2026 (12 months). Phase I of the project is structured to gather and provide background information to set the stage for developing the comprehensive standard of care. If funded, Phase II would provide the opportunity for this project manager role to move to a full time staff position at the Aspen Institute.
