The team

ITV regional news delivers high quality and trustworthy television and online coverage that regularly attracts audiences of up to 3 million viewers each night. It\xe2\x80\x99s a fast moving environment with a huge variety of roles and challenges on offer. We operate in 11 main news production centres across England, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Channel Islands. We also have a Political Unit and a Weather centre based in the heart of Westminster, London. And finally, we produce a range of current affairs & factual programming out of ITV Wales, UTV and ITV Border.

The role

We are looking for a Programme and Digital Editor with the skill, drive and determination to build on the reputation of our news programmes at ITV News Central.

Our Programme and Digital Editor has been promoted, so we have a rare vacancy for a leading role at ITV News Central. If you are interested in becoming the editorial driver in one of the most exciting and busiest news patches in the country, we\xe2\x80\x99d love to hear from you.

You\xe2\x80\x99ll want to serve our viewers in the East and West Midlands by reporting on the topics that matter most to them, shining a light on injustice, celebrating local success and championing the people of this wonderful and richly diverse region. Hopefully you\xe2\x80\x99ll do this so well that you\xe2\x80\x99ll add to our burgeoning trophy cabinet of awards for TV and online.

This is a key management role. You\xe2\x80\x99ll set the highest standards while also preserving the reputation of our newsroom as a great, inclusive and friendly place to work. You will be based in Birmingham and expected to deputise for the Head of News, supported by the Operations Manager, in leading the whole Central team.

Skills you\xe2\x80\x99ll need (minimum criteria)

  • To be considered for an interview your letter of application and CV will need to show your experience and effectiveness both as a news producer and as a manager.
  • Together with your excellent judgement and decision making, you should also be able to demonstrate your excellent knowledge of current affairs as well as a thorough working knowledge of media law, the Ofcom Broadcasting Code and health and safety requirements.
  • You should demonstrate evidence of experience and competence in producing live television news to deadlines.
