Job summary
The Global Health Strategy and Engagement (GHSE) team has three major functions, including:
The EU and Four Nations function which works to increase bilateral and multilateral public health activity (across the UK and Europe) and continues to support the overarching coordination of the EU programmes, ECDC MoU and the Four Nations Health Protection and Oversight Group Secretariat
The Global One Health Security (GOHS) function is committed to strengthening Global Health Security through the One Health approach
The Global Strategy function which leads on UKHSA's global health strategy and corporate governance matters in relation to UKHSA's global health activities
This rewarding and challenging role is responsible for ensuring the UKHSA is seen across Europe as a high performing agency, fostering stakeholder relationship (both internal and external), ensuring smooth-running of EU and Four Nations work, overseeing the timely implementation of workstream support, supporting the maintenance of governance systems, and co-ordinating the project support team. The post-holder will be required to work in partnership with and support the Senior Leadership Team.
The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, an ability to manage varied work programmes, application of own judgement to problem solve and the ability to work to tight and shifting deadlines. They will need to be a highly motivated individual and a self-starter, who can work independently. This role requires someone with proven and demonstrable knowledge of public health systems along with advanced communication, organisational, IT and time management skills. A strong interest in global health and/or international development and experience of international and multisectoral engagement is highly desirable.
The post holder will also support wider delivery of UKHSA's Global Health Strategy. Support the delivery of time-limited projects, working across the CMA Group and Global Health Protection directorate to enhance the delivery of GHSE objectives.
Occasional national and international travel may be required for this post.

Job description
To provide operational and administrative support to the EU Four Nations team
Manage incoming queries to a shared mailbox
Capturing changes in operational ways of working and incorporating these into the team's checklists.
Working with the HR department to address HR issues for the team including recruitment
Tracking programme activity including forward planning and supporting the team to maintain oversight
Trouble shooting for senior EU and Four Nations team and workstream leads experiencing technical and operational issues
Liaising with overseas logistical suppliers to provide support for focal country activity
Alerting the EU and Four Nations manager to urgent issues arising
Planning and organising high level meetings and workshops
Organisation of pre-departure training of UKHSA staff
Assisting with the induction of new staff
Writing PQs, FoIs, briefings and reports as required
Minute writing for meetings at various levels, from internal UKHSA discussions to high level multinational operational delivery meetings
Any other duties as required

Essential role criteria:
A degree within Global health/health related/health sciences related subject or experience of working within a similar role and/or in an applicable area and able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge
Experience of working in projects delivered by partnerships, and in building and maintaining strong relationships with partners.
Experience and understanding of project management.

Desirable role criteria:
Experience of project principles, techniques and tools such as PRINCE2 and Managing Successful Projects
Substantial experience working in public health projects or programmes at senior level
Understanding of global health including the health challenges of low- and middle-income countries and the international health architecture.
Previous involvement in budget setting and a working knowledge of organisational financial processes
Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information, assist in negotiations with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues, and present complex and sensitive information to large and influential groups

Location
This role is being offered as hybrid working based at our Core HQ in UKHSA Canary Wharf.
We offer great flexible working opportunities at UKHSA and operate using a hybrid working model where business needs allow. This provides us with greater flexibility about how and where we work, to get the best from our workforce. As a hybrid worker, you will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of your contractual working hours (approximately 3 days a week pro rata, (averaged over a month). Our core HQ offices are modern and newly refurbished with excellent city centre transport link and benefit from benefit from co-location with other government departments such as the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC).
