The Role
We are seeking a diligent Management Accountant with a strong background in project accounting. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in overseeing project finances, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and supporting project managers in financial decision-making processes. This role will report to the Group Finance Director and will be based in either our Hereford or Southampton office.
Responsibilities
Maintain detailed records of project expenditures, including labour, materials, and other direct costs, to ensure accurate cost allocation.
Oversee the invoicing process for project-related expenses, ensuring timely payments to vendors and subcontractors.
Control the sales invoicing process for projects and ensure payments are received to terms
Collaborate with project managers to develop project budgets and financial forecasts, providing insights to support project planning.
Work closely with project teams to ensure financial alignment with project goals and address any financial concerns.
Monitor and manage project budgets, ensuring alignment with financial projections and identifying potential cost overruns.
Assisting FD with project requests
Assist with month-end management account preparation
Year-end preparation and Audit assistance
P&L and balance sheet review and reconciliation
Reporting and analysis to be undertaken when required
Managing and assisting team with general processing enquiries
FX monitoring and trading
Any additional duties as required
Qualifications and skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Qualified or working towards professional qualification such as ACCA, ACA, CPA or CMA, or QBE
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a project-based environment.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Ability to analyse financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights for project decision-making.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
A keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy in financial reporting and documentation.
Strong administrative skills, with the ability to multi-task in a busy environment, meet deadlines and maintain a high attention to detail.
Proactive in identifying financial issues and implementing effective solutions.
Knowledge using Sage Payroll and Sage Account systems
The post holder will require a complex set of skills - must be a combination of process driven, dynamic, forward thinking, and analytical with a high level of flexibility & adaptability
A demonstrable knowledge of relevant financial accounting reporting rules
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Up to date knowledge of accounting/HMRC regulations
Confident and able to make informed decisions
