Job Description

The Environmental Change Institute (ECI), part of the School of Geography and the Environment (SoGE), is seeking a highly organised and proactive Project Assistant to support a range of local and international research projects within the Ecosystems Research Programme.

Reporting to Professor Yadvinder Malhi, the Programme Leader, the post-holder will provide executive and logistical support to ensure the smooth delivery of research and outreach activities. This will include acting as a key contact for researchers undertaking fieldwork, resolving logistical issues, coordinating visits by external collaborators, and summarising weekly research meetings. The role also involves managing the borrowing and use of scientific equipment, overseeing financial processes, advising on risk assessments, and assisting with the organisation of workshops, conferences and events. In addition, the Project Assistant will support communications for the Programme, including newsletters, website content and social media, and will contribute to the design and production of promotional materials.

The successful candidate will have a strong educational background, excellent organisational and analytical skills, and the ability to work independently with initiative and accuracy. They will demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgement, and discretion when handling confidential information. Good IT and numerical skills are essential, along with the capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively and remain calm under pressure.
Experience in managing social media or communications, alongside marketing or design skills, and an interest in natural history or ecological science, would be an advantage.

This post is fixed-term for 2 years and offered on a part-time basis (16.87 hours / 45% FTE)
