The Role
The Project Engineer plays a key role in the commercial and delivery success of our timber-frame annexe projects. This is a fast-paced, detail-driven position suited to someone with strong analytical skills, sound commercial judgement, and a proactive mindset.
Predominantly office-based, you'll work closely with Project Managers, Purchasing, Design, and senior leadership to provide accurate BOMs/BOQs, cost control, planning support, and operational reporting--helping ensure projects are delivered efficiently, profitably, and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, manage, and review project material budgets, BOMs and BOQs
Maintain live cost trackers, forecasts, and financial records across multiple projects
Monitor material usage, labour, subcontractor spend, and variations
Identify cost risks, opportunities, and variances, issuing early warnings where required
Provide commercial input into planning, value engineering, and programme reviews
Produce clear and concise cost and performance reports for senior management
Support procurement scheduling and timely ordering with the Purchasing team
Attend progress meetings and contribute commercial insight and solutions
Support project and resource planning activities
Champion accurate data management using iHus systems and digital tools
Drive continuous improvement by identifying trends, inefficiencies, and repeat issues
Essential skills & experience:
Strong understanding of construction, ideally within timber-frame, modular, or residential environments
Excellent numerical and analytical skills with high attention to detail
Strong commercial judgement and cost control experience
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-moving environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project/financial tracking systems
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Qualifications & requirements:
HND, HNC, or equivalent qualification in Construction, Civil Engineering, or similar (or significant relevant experience)
Experience in construction projects (timber-frame or modular preferred)
Full, clean driving licence
