is seeking to recruit an experienced

Project Engineer

. This opportunity has arisen due to an expanding order book, driven by exciting projects within the Aerospace, Medical, Defence, and Cryogenic industries.

Based in Paignton, Devon, Rockwood is an engineering and manufacturing facility dedicated to the composites industry. The successful candidate will join a skilled engineering team and be involved in a range of activities, including Design for Manufacturing (DFM), tooling design, fixture design, and technical component drawings. Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint will be essential for overseeing project progress and presenting findings and reports to customers.

The successful candidate will ensure that designs are practical, machinable, and adhere to company standards, all while meeting tight deadlines. Collaboration with other engineering staff and departments to enhance design efficiency and effectiveness is critical. Maintaining documentation of all design drafts and revisions and providing clear communication across various teams is also essential.

Key Responsibilities



Developing detailed 3D models and 2D technical drawings using SolidWorks software. Lead engineering projects by preparing designs and documentation for new projects, liaising with customers, and maintaining excellent communication between all members of the key departments. Ensuring all necessary files and records are maintained accurately in a PDM system. Collaborating with team members, including engineers and manufacturing personnel, to address developmental design issues and help to smoothly transfer projects in development into production by supporting documentation activities. Review and comment on process control documentation produced by other departments Stay updated on new CAD technologies and incorporate them into the workplace to enhance production and design processes. Staying proactive about developing ones rounded knowledge to the benefit

Knowledge and Experience (Essential)



Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

In depth knowledge and long-standing experience in SolidWorks CAD software is essential.

An engineering background and industrial experience is key, including knowledge of various materials, their characteristics, strengths and weaknesses and machinability as an example.

A good understanding of Applied Maths in relation to engineering.

Machining knowledge is desirable to ensure tooling and fixturing design is practical.

Proficiency in alternative CAD software, such as CATIA is desirable.

A strong understanding of engineering theory and the principles of design.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Ability to use the Microsoft 365 suite of software, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Proven track record and working examples within manufacturing industries

Knowledge and Experience (Non-Essential but Desired)



Knowledge in composites and material selection of Carbon and Glass Fibres.

Knowledge of resin system Polyester, Vinylester and or Epoxy.

Experience in designing tooling for rather injection moulding or casting is desirable but not essential.

Experience of CAD/CAM software specifically hyperMILL but any other software would be desirable. The ability to be able to program a CNC Mill would also be considered as beneficial experience for the role.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 30,000.00-45,000.00 per year
