Project Estimator

London, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

The Light Lab is a leading manufacturer of bespoke architectural lighting solutions. Over the past two decades, we've combined our expertise in lighting design, emerging technologies, and project management to deliver high-end installations across some of the UK's most iconic buildings -- and an expanding number of international projects.

We're a close-knit, sociable team that values collaboration, creativity, and wellbeing, with a strong emphasis on supporting our people and enjoying regular team activities together.

Role Overview

We're looking for a Project Estimator with strong technical and drawing interpretation skills to join our expanding team.

This role is perfect for someone who's confident reading architectural and lighting drawings, highly skilled in AutoCAD, and enjoys turning technical information into accurate, well-presented quotations.

Working closely with our Project Managers and Technical teams, you'll help prepare precise cost breakdowns for bespoke lighting systems -- supporting the smooth delivery of estimates and ensuring quotes go out on time and to specification.

Key Responsibilities

Quotation & Estimation

Prepare detailed and accurate quotations for bespoke lighting projects. Break down project requirements into materials, components, and labour estimates. Research and obtain supplier quotes for materials, finishes, and subcontracted elements. Review tender documents and specifications to ensure all requirements are covered. Maintain and update internal costing templates and pricing databases.
Project Support & Coordination

Support Project Managers in compiling tender packages and client submissions. Liaise with internal design and production teams to confirm feasibility, lead times, and costs. Ensure quotation documents are clear, consistent, and aligned with company standards. Track revisions and updates as project details evolve.
Supplier & Material Research

Identify cost-effective materials and suppliers while maintaining design integrity and quality. Maintain a library of approved suppliers and material references. Request and manage pricing, samples, and technical data.
Internal Collaboration

Work closely with Project Management, Design, and Production teams to ensure smooth handover from quote to order. Communicate proactively to flag cost risks, price changes, or sourcing alternatives. Participate in internal project reviews and value engineering exercises when required.
What We're Looking For

Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy. Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple estimates at once. Clear and confident communicator with good written and verbal skills. Team player with a practical, problem-solving approach. Interest in design, materials, and fabrication.
Skills & Experience

Highly proficient in AutoCAD and CAD systems generally, with extensive experience reading, interpreting, and working confidently from detailed technical drawings. Good knowledge and understanding of the intricacies of staircase/balustrade and handrail drawings a distinct advantage. Prior estimating experience in construction, lighting, or design-related industries advantageous and preferred. Very competent in Microsoft Excel and data management tools. An understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, or lighting components preferred. Familiarity with CRM or project management systems a plus.
Working Environment

Full-time, based at our Shoreditch studio. Hands-on exposure to workshop production and prototype development. Supportive, creative, and collaborative work culture with regular team activities. Strong focus on personal growth and development within a dynamic, independent company.
