Big changes are underway in our Engineering Supply Chain team. As we prepare to remobilise the second-generation Technical Support and Spares Supply Agreement (TSSSA), we're gearing up to deliver something transformational and the Spares Supply project is right at the centre of it all. That's where you come in.
You'll lead the day-to-day management of this project, bringing clarity, energy and direction to a fast-moving, high-impact programme of work. You'll be a key part of the team in Leeds, shaping how our supply chain and distribution operations evolve, and making sure the project stays on track, on budget and on time.
Your work will have visibility at Executive level and influence across the wider business. So if you're looking for a chance to make change happen and see the results first-hand, this is it.
What you'll be doing
Bringing the right people together to form a project team that can deliver on scope, budget and timescales.
Documenting future-state processes, spotting inefficiencies and suggesting ways to improve.
Leading continuous improvement initiatives and tracking small changes that support long-term progress.
Being the key point of contact between Northern and external partners like the supplier and ROSCO (rolling stock company).
Acting as the link between strategy and delivery - making sure everyone understands what's needed, what's changing and why.
Keeping an eye on risks, challenges and delays, and adjusting plans when things shift.
Holding people to account and reporting back to the leadership team on progress.
About you
You know how to get things moving and keep them moving.
You've delivered large-scale projects in complex, regulated environments before, and you're confident handling competing priorities. The rail industry would be ideal, but if you've worked in similar high-stakes sectors, we'd still love to hear from you.
A degree (or equivalent experience), plus a project management qualification like APM or Prince2, will give you a strong foundation to build on. What really matters, though, is your ability to connect the dots, influence people and take ownership from start to finish.
Tenacity, resilience and a knack for adapting plans when the unexpected happens - that's three things you'll bring to this role.

Why Northern?
We're more than just a train operator. We're the heartbeat of the North - connecting communities, creating opportunities, and driving sustainable growth. With 2,500 trains running daily, we're on a mission to improve rail travel and enhance the customer experience while protecting the environment.
Back in 1825, the first passenger train set off in the North of England, after which rail quickly spread across the globe - and this year, we're celebrating 200 years of the modern railway. As we look back on the historic events that led us here, we also look towards the future as we move into the era of Great British Rail. Join us at this pivotal moment in rail history and play your part in our journey.
A place for everyone
The best journeys happen when everyone feels welcome on board.
At Northern, we don't just move people from A to B - we're building a team where everyone feels they belong. Our talent team can make reasonable adjustments to the process if that's something you need. We're also a Level 2 Disability Confident employer, so if you meet the minimum criteria for the role, we'll always offer an interview.
We automate parts of our screening process to remove any unconscious bias and to make sure every application is treated fairly. All successful offers will be subject to a DBS check and a medical assessment.
No matter your background, experience, or whether you call it a bap, barm, or cob... there's a place for you here in the railway.
