bout the Role]




The post holder will be responsible for managing the ERC Advanced Grant Muscular Faith: The Interplay Between Sport and Religion in Africa (MFA) at SOAS University of London. This five-year project will start on 1 November 2025 and end on 31 October 2030. MFA involves research on the interplay between different religions and different professional sports in four countries in Africa: boxing in Nigeria, soccer in South Africa, karate in Egypt, and long-distance running in Kenya. MFA involves two partner institutions: University of Cape Town (South Africa) and Helwan University (Egypt). The Principal Investigator (Marloes Janson) is responsible for oversight of the project and reporting to the funder. The Programme Manager will work closely with the PI and is in charge of managing the project and the budget (EUR 2.3 million).

The Department of Anthropology and Sociology at SOAS is a world-leading research-led department. Its academics and research students work across a wide spectrum of anthropological, regional, and theoretical issues, including development, medical and psychological anthropology, food, migration, political economy, conflict, gender, race, infrastructure and the environment, critical theory and innovative ethnographic methods.


[About you]




The post holder will provide effective and efficient programme co-ordination for all elements of the project including budgeting and finance, data management, communication, website and social media, monitoring and evaluation, dissemination strategies, and partnerships with institutions overseas.


The project holder should have extensive experience of project and financial management and managing partnerships in multiple countries, preferably in the Global South.
