Job Description

Project Manager: State of Carbon Dioxide Removal

We are seeking to appoint a Project Manager for the State of Carbon Dioxide Removal initiative. You will play a key role in the team, leading on day-to-day tracking of progress and contributing to strategic direction as the project grows. Working largely online, you will work closely with a leading international team of CDR experts. You will also interact with a growing and diversifying group of lead authors, and a specialist team of communicators, editors and graphic designers. While funded initially to produce the Second Edition report, the intention is for this role to continue and grow further in responsibility with the project.

This is an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of the ground-breaking State of Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) project that aims at providing reliable, independent and scientific data for tracking and assessing the development of CDR around the world. It is an international collaboration led by experts at the University of Oxford, MCC Berlin, SWP Berlin, the University of Wisconsin and IIASA. The first edition report has received international acclaim and media attention, and is influencing key decision makers in climate action across policy and industry.

The successful candidate needs to support the scientific editors in their overall responsibility for the State of CDR project. We will recruit a person able to ensure the successful and timely delivery of the next phase of the State of CDR work, including the 2nd edition of the report, meetings of the steering committee, and development of a data portal. The successful candidate needs to develop and maintain tools for project management, including a GANTT chart, budget tracker, Google Drive storage system, and any others you identify to assign and deliver tasks, in consultation with the core team.

The successful candidate will hold a relevant Master\'s degree or higher, or equivalent experience. You will have excellent skills in preparing and leading meetings, both in person and online. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. We will recruit a self-starting, well organized individual with proven project management skills, including planning, managing, delivering and monitoring a project. Ability to build and manage good, collaborative working relationships with a range of people, in particular technical specialists, is essential. You will have a pro-active and adaptive attitude, able to identify new opportunities for impact while balancing them against existing priorities and resources. The successful candidate needs to have enthusiasm and interest in the content and aims of the project.

Applications are particularly welcome and encouraged from women, black, and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in posts in SSEE. SSEE and the School of Geography are committed to equality and value diversity.

This role is open to applicants able to work hours at an overall average anywhere from 50% FTE up to 100% FTE and can be discussed at interview. Please see job description attached for further information.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and a supporting statement as part of your online application.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 30 August 2023, and interviews are expected to take place in mid-September.
