Company Overview
Our client is a specialist civil engineering and utilities contractor delivering high-integrity projects across the gas and energy infrastructure sector. With long-standing relationships across all gas networks they are now seeking a Project Manager to lead and develop their East Midlands & Northern delivery team.
Role Overview
This is a pivotal leadership position responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of complex infrastructure and civils-based gas projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong utilities background, with a focus on gas or oil pipelines, and be fully confident managing NEC4 contracts, client relationships, and multi-disciplinary teams across all stages of the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full project lifecycle from tender through to final account and close-out
Build and maintain workload with major clients
Provide leadership and direction to internal project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders
Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations 2015 (Principal Designer / Principal Contractor responsibilities)
Conduct risk assessments, method statement approvals, and support temporary works coordination
Oversee financial management including applications for payment, compensation events, variations, and budgeting
Conduct safety audits, drive compliance with HSEQ standards, and promote a positive safety culture
Recruit, train, and develop internal project staff and site personnel
Work closely with Directors and Finance teams on commercial performance and sustainability initiatives
Manage resource planning, labour meetings, and project reporting
Attend weekly progress meetings and produce departmental performance reports
Investigate and resolve incidents, near-misses, and client complaints
Key Skills & Experience Required
Proven experience delivering civil engineering and utilities projects (ideally within the gas sector)
In-depth understanding of NEC4 contracts, commercial and technical bid submissions
Demonstrable leadership and people management capability
Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015
Excellent financial acumen including cost control, forecasting, and reporting
Effective communicator able to represent the business professionally at all levels
Comfortable managing client expectations and driving internal delivery teams
Strong IT and systems literacy (project software, reporting tools, MS Office)
Desirable Qualifications
SMSTS or equivalent H&S qualifications
Degree or equivalent in Construction, Civil Engineering, or Project Management
Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. ICE, APM, CIOB)
