Job Description

The Oversight Board makes binding and independent decisions about the most challenging content issues on Facebook and Instagram. Members of the Board include Helle Thorning-Schmidt, former Prime Minister of Denmark, Tawakkol Karman, Nobel Peace Prize winner, Michael McConnell, Director of Stanford's Constitutional Law Center, and many other diverse leaders and thinkers from around the world. The Board issued its first decisions in January 2021.



The Oversight Board Administration is the team of full-time staff who support Board Members in carrying out their duties. The Administration has a presence in London, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., and operates with a global scope.

The role






Joining the Oversight Board Administration is a chance to be part of an organisation which is leading on some of the most prominent and challenging issues facing the tech industry and society.




Reporting to the Head of Editorial, Digital and Content, this role serves as

a central point of coordination across the Oversight Board's communications functions. The post-holder ensures the effective and timely delivery of high impact public-facing activities by leading cross-functional project management efforts across comms and engagement workstreams, that are cross functionally aligned.




Responsibilities for this role will include, but are not limited to:



Communications Project Managemen





Develop and maintain the global communications calendar/tracking tool, ensuring visibility and alignment across teams of deadlines for all aspects of communications work. Liaise with external PR firm to identify, track, and coordinate information, requests and workflows. Track impact and engagement metrics; contribute to quarterly internal reporting, learning, and evaluation processes. Support the public comments process, working cross-functionally with content and editorial teams to ensure outreach to stakeholders according to established processes, checking comments for PII and other potential issues, and troubleshooting with external firm to ensure timely and accurate deliverable of web workflows. Identify and implement workflow and process improvements to increase efficiency across editorial and engagement processes. Anticipate project risks and dependencies and propose mitigation plans to maintain consistent momentum on communications priorities and ensure the team is accountable to shared deliverables. Develop and maintain project roadmap and goals on department owned initiatives. Deliver overview and status reporting and identify and escalate obstacles for resolution to appropriate stakeholders. Maintain overview of tools and services used across the team, identifying efficiencies in process.

Communications & Engagement Operations





Provide on-the-ground communications support for outreach and engagement activities involving Board Members (e.g. roundtables, briefings, and public forums). Map global events and advocacy opportunities, with a focus on engagements aligned with the Board's priorities. Lead the submission and coordination of proposals for speaking opportunities and external engagements. Work collaboratively with Comms and Engagement leads on the preparation of briefing notes, Board Member schedules, and logistics. Draft external-facing communications, including case-related emails, stakeholder emails, etc. Coordinate inputs from Board Members and external PR firm to manage the stakeholder mapping and tracking process in support outreach efforts. Lead on special engagement and editorial projects as assigned, ensuring timely and strategic execution.



Skills & Experience





Essential:


Demonstrable experience in a communications, media, or public affairs role, with a strong emphasis on project management and coordination. Extensive project management experience working with cross-functional teams, including a penchant for diplomacy and creative problem solving. Ability to collaborate and influence across multiple levels of an organization with experience leading cross-functional process improvements and holding project leads accountable to the greater project goals. Excellent writing, editing, verbal and interpersonal skills, Proven ability to plan and deliver complex communications initiatives involving multiple internal and external stakeholders across different time zones and functions. Strong organisational skills with experience of event planning, stakeholder mapping, or communications strategy execution. Experience in managing external partners or vendors, including accountability for timelines, deliverables and quality. Strong global competency, with deep cultural and political awareness to navigate complex, cross-cultural communications and effectively engage with international colleagues and stakeholders across multiple time zones. Comfortable in managing competing priorities across distributed teams and responding adaptively in a fast-moving environment.

Desirable:


Proficiency in one or more foreign languages. Interest in and understanding of the technology sector's regulatory landscape and societal impacts, particularly around freedom of expression and user protections. Experience working in or with multilateral, advocacy, or mission-driven organizations.
