Newport City Council's Environment and Public Protection service area brings together services such as waste and cleansing, grounds, community protection, parks and recreation, cemetery and crematorium, climate change, biodiversity and regulatory services.



Key Responsibilities:





You will work across the Environment and Public Protection service area with agencies, external and internal organisations/stakeholders and the public to deliver against Council and Welsh Government policy and strategy, with a focus on street cleansing, waste prevention, recycling, and circular economy principles of reuse and repair.



Aspects of the role will include:




Research, design, implement, and evaluate projects to enhance cleansing, waste and recycling efforts through a project management framework. Coordinate funding bids and manage grants to secure additional resources for projects. Collaborate with stakeholders to maximize the benefits of projects for the community. Prepare specifications and tenders, lead procurement exercises, and manage external contractors. Act as a key point of contact for service area issues, providing support and advice to relevant agencies, stakeholders, and the public. Play a key role in developing and delivering creative strategies for our street cleansing service.




Who We're Looking For:





We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about environmental sustainability, street cleansing and waste management. The ideal candidate will have:




A degree or equivalent qualification, with evidence of further professional development Relevant qualifications or experience in waste management, recycling, or related environmental sustainability subjects. Experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, research, and report writing. Strong planning, organisational, and communication skills. The ability to apply creativity and flexibility to generate innovative solutions to complex problems.

This is a fixed-term post initially offered for 12 months. The project timeline and funding will be reviewed during the year to determine whether the post will be extended.
