The key purpose of the Capital Delivery Track function is the efficient delivery of track renewals and enhancements through improved specification, better utilisation of resources and the professional control and management of projects. Its focus is to renew and enhance the rail infrastructure to deliver our commitments for the future through increased efficiency and value for money.

The Southern Rail Systems Alliance is Network Rail and Colas working together in a collaborative way to deliver world class renewals. The Alliance is bringing new technology and innovation including renewal techniques not previously used in the UK. The SRSA undertake multi-disciplinary design, construction and commissioning of Switches & Crossings, Plain Line renewals and enhancement works on parts of the UK rail network.

We deliver renewal, enhancement and refurbishment of new and existing high and low speed junctions, station remodelling schemes and line speed increases. The Eastern Region Renewals Programme is worth circa \xc2\xa3200m per annum and is delivered in discrete projects, many of which are adding capacity and capability to the network in conjunction with replacing track assets nearing life-expiry. This is a Network Rail post supporting the Eastern Region of the Alliance.

Brief Description

Having a highly capable and effective Programme Controls function is key to the successful delivery of projects. This post is part of the Programme Controls function for Eastern Capital Delivery. The role is to offer project planning and programme controls services to the project team. To develop project or integration programme plans/schedules on behalf of Programme Engineering & Delivery Managers and Project Managers in order to meet overall requirements of the client/business in the most cost effective and reliable manner. Due to the challenges of delivering CP6 & CP7 benefits to GB railway, we need an additional team member who:

  • Wants to be involved in the shaping of the Track Renewals programme.
  • Is passionate about putting Planning and Programme Controls at the heart of delivering the required benefits in CP6&7.
  • Has the ability to build key relationships within the Alliance team.
  • Is comfortable working in complex projects with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Is able to work to a structure where required but enjoys thinking laterally to develop solutions.
  • Has developed skills in thinking logically and is confident working with numbers and data.
  • Is comfortable both in being held to account for delivering, and in holding others to account.
About the role (External)

Key Accountabilities
  • To interact and become a key member of the project delivery team providing a quality service to support the effective delivery of the project.
  • To interact and support effective information sharing/collection with all the project stakeholders in an appropriate manner.
  • Prepare a project work breakdown structure and plan/schedule which will ensure delivery of the project objectives and providing effective project performance measurement and reporting.
  • To develop the appropriate quality plan/schedule in line with the project scheduling principles and processes.
  • Monitor and progress the plan/schedule and make changes as required. Develop recovery schedules and contingency plans to meet changed objectives as necessary.
  • Input the planning issues into the project\'s critical issues risk log. Review planning risks and monitor whether the risk register is updated accordingly.
  • Report actual performance and variance against plan and forecast outcomes. Highlight key milestone and critical path issues to members of the team, provide an assessment of the impact of such issues and recommend solutions to correct the position.
  • Interrogate contractor\'s statement of progress for schedule adherence and payment purposes.
  • Identify key resource requirements and monitor that these are accurately booked and availability is maintained.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential
  • Proven experience in the successful scheduling of engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of railway investment planning systems.
  • Experience of using a number of project management scheduling tools including Primavera P6.
Desirable
  • Membership of a relevant professional body
  • Understanding of the engineering requirements of work on the railway
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt
