At Sheffield Forgemasters we have an exciting opportunity for a Project Quality Engineer to join our Quality function.


This role is based at our 64-acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield. Our Quality department ensure that our products meet internal standards, customer requirements, and industry regulations through stringent quality assurance and control measures.


As a Project Quality Engineer, you will support with the delivery of strategic quality assurance and control across complex, high-integrity engineering programmes, by acting as an interface between Project Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality, and provides quality governance across the full project lifecycle.

What you'll be doing

Developing and managing Project Quality Plans (PQPs), incorporating PFMEAs, compliance mapping, and lessons learned. Supporting project teams in meeting quality milestones, hold points, and contract deliverables. Participating in risk reviews, change control, and contract quality planning. Working with Melting, Forging, Casting, Machining, NDE, and Testing teams to ensure PQP adherence. Supporting inspection / test activities, manage hold / witness points, and resolve nonconformances. Participating in internal audits and readiness reviews. Conducting risk-based supplier surveillance, audits, and review of ITPs, certifications, and inspection records. Collaborating with suppliers to drive long-term CAPA (Corrective & Preventive Action) improvements. Managing end-to-end CAPA, ensuring effective containment and corrective actions. Maintaining CAPA registers and report on quality KPIs and trends. Ensuring digitised, traceable quality records are integrated with ERP and project platforms. Liaising with client quality reps, third-party inspectors, and certification bodies during inspections, audits, and reviews. Preparing and delivering full documentation and traceability packs in line with contract and regulatory requirements.

About You

A Degree / HND in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Materials Engineering or equivalent experience. Experience in heavy or precision engineering (nuclear, defence, offshore preferred). Experience in project quality planning, APQP, PPAP, FAIR, and project management principles. In-depth understanding of quality standards: ASME NQA-1, ISO 9001, ISO 19443 etc. Strong knowledge of CAPA management, Six Sigma, and risk-based thinking. Ability to manage complex project documentation and demonstrate audit readiness.

The Working Pattern

This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday. We offer flexibility in our start and finish times between 06:15 - 09:30 and 14:30 - 18:00.
