Community Ties Youth Provision Project Youth Worker Overview
Haxby & Wigginton Youth & Community Association (HWYCA) is seeking to hire a skilled and confident individual to be our Project Youth Worker. The role will assist our Lead Youth Worker in delivering our Wednesday Youth Group and Thursday Drop-in, alongside optional additional hours which include an Online Youth Group, as part of our Community Ties Youth Provision taking place during Term Time.
The Project Youth Worker will be responsible for the planning and delivery of a range of activities, crafts and games that encourage development and positive participation for young people aged 10-13 at Wednesday Youth Group, and activities which support positive lifestyle choices for young people aged 13-17 at Drop-in.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their ability to deliver creative, challenging, and relevant content for young people, be a skilled communicator, and committed to making a difference to the lives of young people. We also require the Project Youth Worker to implement weekly activity accessible to all interests and abilities, with practical support from the Lead Youth Worker.
The position is 5.5-7 hours per week, term time only, at 13 per hour and subject to funding.
Regular Working Hours
Wednesday Youth Group:
2 hours per week from 5:45-7:45pm for set up, clear down and delivery, plus an additional 1 hour from home for planning and notes.
Thursday Drop-in:
2 hours per week from 6:45-8:45pm for set up, clear down and delivery, plus an additional 30 minutes from home for planning and notes.
Optional additional hours
Online Youth Work:
This group is currently in development. The role would consist of supporting the development and delivery of an online youth group. This is an optional additional 1.5 hours per week.

Wednesday Youth Group, Wednesdays 5:45-7:45pm

For young people aged 10-13
Wednesday Youth Group is an open access provision for young people ages 10-13. We deliver a range of activities including sports, arts and crafts, games, cooking/baking and more. We aim to empower young people to make positive choices and build social connections in a fun and safe environment.
Drop-in, Thursdays 6:45-8:45pm
Drop-in Delivery Time: 7:00-8:30pm
For young people aged 13-17
Drop-in is an informal service for young people to socialise and access youth services. Activities each week look to explore positive and healthy lifestyle choices or youth challenges, such as body image, relationships, school, self-expression as we strive to help with the growing antisocial behaviour in the community. We also offer sexual health services including condom distribution.
Key Tasks
Weekly planning and delivery of a wide range of engaging and age appropriate activities.
Supporting the Lead Youth Worker to deliver targeted project work that will explore positive and healthy lifestyle choices or youth challenges, such as body image, relationships, school, self-expression etc.
Establishing relationships and supporting general activity with the young people.
Help setting up each session and cleaning down after.
Resolving youth conflicts and dealing with challenging behaviour including following all safeguarding practices.
Good communication of group ideas, concerns and issues to the Lead Youth Worker.
Supporting the completion of general admin for the club such as registers and social media.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Must be available during the allotted Wednesday and Thursday evening session times each week.
Previously involved in the delivery of a youth provision/group or similar programme for a minimum of 1 year.
Experience of working with groups of young people between 10-17 years of age.
Experience delivering targeted projects or activities.
Behaviour management skills.
Previous experience planning and delivering large and small scale activities for young people.
Demonstrative experience of working in a team.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organisational skills.
Desirable
Educated up to or currently studying for a degree level in a relevant subject matter (for example Children and Young people services, JNC Youth Work).
Training relevant to delivering issue-based sessions (for example stop smoking support, sexual health awareness and substance misuse awareness).
Knowledge of safeguarding practices and behaviour management.
Please note: All relevant training will be provided. HWYCA follows safe recruitment practices and therefore the successful candidate must be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check with bared lists if appointed the position of Project Youth Worker. We will also require 2 references from the appointed candidate.
