The Biological Services Facility is one of the largest single-site animal research facilities in the UK. It supports researchers across the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health, including around 90 project license holders and 600 personal licensees.
This role will provide day-to-day oversight and support to projects which align with the BSF's strategic goals. Many day-to-day functions in the BSF are managed by a bespoke animal management system. This system also plays a key role in maintaining compliance. Initially, this role will provide day-to-day oversight and support of the transition to MCMS, a new animal management system.
This role will also provide support to the Training, Licensing and 3Rs Manager, particularly around communications and events. Clear and engaging communication, both internally with BSF staff and users and externally with the public and key stakeholders, plays a crucial role in the BSF's strategic plan and this role will support the Executive Leadership Team in facilitating a high-quality communication strategy. The communication channels utilised include the BSF SharePoint pages, monthly newsletter, regular training and educational sessions (both in-person and online) and other content such as posters and infographics. As a whole, these communications ensure that animal welfare, implementation of the 3Rs and compliance with ethical and legal requirements remain foremost in everyone's minds and assists with the efficient running of the unit.
