The Property Operations Assistant is a key member of the Property Department, providing essential seven-day-a-week support for the College's estate on a rotational schedule. Reporting to the Property Manager, and under the leadership of the Head of Property, the role includes delivering porterage services, conducting daily security tasks, and performing health and safety compliance checks to ensure the estate's smooth operation and statutory compliance.
The role is also responsible for routine maintenance inspections, addressing minor property repairs, and supporting the broader property programme to uphold the College's operational excellence and heritage preservation. The role requires a proactive, detail-oriented, and collaborative individual committed to contributing to the College's values and mission.
The key duties of the role include, but are not limited to:
Securely open and close College properties and conduct daily security checks to safeguard the integrity of the College's buildings and grounds, responding promptly to incidents and escalating issues as necessary.
Carry out health and safety compliance checks, ensuring that all areas meet statutory requirements and internal standards, and report any concerns to the Property Manager.
Undertake routine maintenance inspections, identifying and reporting issues requiring attention, and with appropriate training and support, executing minor repairs to maintain the operational condition of the estate.
Support the implementation of planned preventative maintenance programmes by assisting with inspections, monitoring schedules, and liaising with contractors where required.
Using basic property management software respond to and log tasks, tracking and supporting maintenance and health and safety schedules.
Support the reception team when required, greeting visitors to the College, providing wayfinding and information as needed.
Perform porterage duties, including the movement of equipment, furniture, and deliveries across the College's estate, ensuring efficient logistical support for daily operations including support for College Ceremonial activities.
Undertake routine ground maintenance works including litter picking and cleaning of exterior spaces.
Work collaboratively within the Property Department team to support sustainability initiatives, energy efficiency improvements, and the overall management of the College's historic and operational estate.

The Property Operations Assistant will work a rotational shift pattern to ensure 7-day coverage is in place for the College. The role holder will have experience in property operations, facilities support, and/or building maintenance, with a proven ability to carry out routine inspections and minor repairs. A basic qualification in health and safety, such as IOSH Working Safely, is required or the commitment to work towards one.
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills are needed, as is the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders. The role necessitates a customer-focused approach and excellent interpersonal skills, including teamwork and adaptability. Familiarity with heritage or historic buildings and the operational challenges they present is desirable, along with the ability to use property management software to enhance efficiency.
The role holder requires a degree of physical ability including working at height, dexterity to effectively use a range of tools, as well as manual handling and lifting loads.
