Property Recoveries Associate

Birmingham, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join Kennedys' highly regarded Liability practice as a Property Recoveries Associate, in our well-established and nationally recognised Recoveries team.

Kennedys has a strong reputation in recoveries work, acting for leading insurers and corporate clients. As demand continues to grow, we have an excellent opportunity for an ambitious solicitor looking to build depth of expertise, take on increasing responsibility, and play a visible role in the continued development of the team.

Team

The role sits within Kennedys' Liability Defence division, a core practice advising insurer and corporate clients on complex liability claims. Recoveries work forms a growing part of the division, delivered in close collaboration with the firm's successfully established Motor Recoveries team, offering a strong platform for technical development and progression.

Role

You will be responsible for managing a varied caseload of property recovery claims and to support the partner of the team in supervising and developing the junior members of the team.

This role offers client exposure and collaboration across teams, and is ideal for a solicitor who enjoys strategic litigation, clear decision-making, and contributing to the development of best practice within a growing recoveries offering.

Key Responsibilities

Managing a caseload of property recovery matters from instruction through to settlement or resolution. Advising insurer clients on liability, causation, recoverability, and litigation strategy. Drafting pleadings, schedules of loss, and correspondence, and progressing claims through the litigation process. Instructing and liaising with experts, including surveyors, engineers, and fire investigators. Identifying opportunities for early resolution and delivering commercially focused outcomes. Providing technical input and practical guidance to colleagues, supporting knowledge-sharing and team development.

Required experience

Qualified solicitor (England & Wales). Essential litigation experience, with the ability to run files independently. Experience handling property damage recoveries, subrogated claims, or complex liability matters. Strong working knowledge of Fast Track and Intermediate Track procedure, including costs considerations. Solid understanding of negligence, breach of duty, contribution claims, contractual indemnities, and limitation. Experience offering technical guidance, constructive challenge, or file strategy input to colleagues is advantageous. Previous formal supervisory experience is beneficial but not essential, as the team provides structured training and development. Excellent drafting, communication, and client-facing skills.

Please let us know if you require any additional support or adjustments to be made in order to submit your application to Kennedys.
