Job summary




An interesting and challenging opportunity to work within the Ministry of Defence to help UK Strategic Command with the management of Special Access Programmes (SAPs) and act as Principal Staff Officer to Director Capability. SAPs are special procedures Defence uses to protect the most sensitive of capabilities. You will be part of the Integrated Capabilities Directorate, which is a joint organisation key to developing future capabilities, comprising of MoD Military and Civil Servants based predominantly at Northwood and MoD Main Building.


This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.


Jobshare can only be offered if the full time hours (37 hours) is fully covered.

Job description




You will have the opportunity to engage with the wider Integrated Capability Directorate to understand the SAP requirements. You will lead the development of new processes and procedures for the local governance of SAPs, which are integral in development of new, specialist capabilities.


You will have the opportunity to work across the MoD higher SAP governance organisations to ensure UKStratCom compliance.


In addition to being responsible for the SAP management, you will work directly to Director Capability as a Principal Staff Officer, supporting them in the delivery of circ 650 projects and programmes. This necessitates daily engagement with senior staff and regular problem solving to ensure Defence gets the most out of limited resources.

Person specification




Problem Solving: Develop and maintain new governance structure that enables compliance with the regulations, provides appropriate assurance of compliance and that best practice is followed.

Engaging with the higher governance organisations to ensure the procedures are fit for purpose. Carry out the audits of SAPs, as directed in the procedures. Reviewing breaches and potential breaches to identify cause and recommend next steps to prevent recurrence. Carry out trend analysis to ensure best practice is followed. Review and amend the procedures for UKStratCom SAP governance.

Connecting: Assist UKStratCom to ensure the processes and procedures are the most appropriate for the organisation

Engage with higher organisations to ensure compliance. Engage with Front Line Commands to understand and define best practice. Engage with UKStratCom workforce managing SAPs to ensure compliance and supporting learning.

Coaching: Coach those involved in day-to-day management of SAPs on processes and procedures.


PS support to DCap: Additional capacity will be used as Principal Staff Officer support to DCap, helping the outer office team manage the diary and prepare staff work.


Any other tasks defined by LM or DCap.


Undertake learning and development and upskilling as required.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
