We are seeking an experienced and highly organised PSV Engineering Manager to oversee the maintenance, compliance, and engineering operations of our public service vehicle fleet. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of PSV regulations, exceptional leadership skills, and proven experience with VMS (Vehicle Maintenance System) software from Distinctive Systems.
You will be responsible for ensuring that all vehicles are maintained to the highest safety and reliability standards, compliant with DVSA regulations, and operating efficiently within budget.
Key Responsibilities
:
Manage and lead the engineering and maintenance team, including technicians and support staff.
Ensure all PSV maintenance and repair work is completed to legal and company standards.
Use and manage VMS software from Distinctive Systems to monitor vehicle maintenance schedules, defect reporting, job cards, and compliance documentation.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules through VMS.
Ensure full compliance with all relevant DVSA, VOSA, and HSE requirements.
Liaise with Operations and Compliance teams to manage vehicle availability and downtime.
Monitor vehicle inspections, MOTs, servicing, and defect rectification, ensuring records are accurately maintained within VMS.
Drive improvements in workshop efficiency, cost control, and service delivery.
Conduct regular audits and report on engineering performance and compliance.
Lead investigations into engineering faults or incidents and implement corrective actions.
Manage budgets for parts, tools, equipment, and labour.
Support recruitment, training, and development of engineering staff.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
:
Proven experience in a senior engineering or fleet maintenance role, ideally within the PSV or transport industry.
Strong working knowledge of VMS (Vehicle Maintenance System) software by Distinctive Systems or similar systems.
In-depth knowledge of PSV regulations and DVSA compliance requirements.
Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in vehicle maintenance).
Strong IT and administrative skills, including reporting and compliance tracking.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

IRTEC certification
IOSH Managing Safely or similar H&S qualification
Experience working within ISO-accredited environments
