An exciting opportunity has arisen for a
Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in Adult Eating Disorders
to join a highly experienced, multidisciplinary team.
The post holder will provide
clinical leadership and management
within the Adult Eating Disorder Service, working alongside a team of nurses, psychotherapists, psychologists, dietitians, occupational therapists, and medical staff.
Although focused on adults, the role involves close collaboration with colleagues in
Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Adult Primary Care, and Community Mental Health Teams
, ensuring a seamless and coordinated approach to patient care.
This position offers the opportunity to drive forward the
continued development of specialist eating disorder services
across Wales, with a strong focus on
early intervention, recovery, and community living skills
.
Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical
Provide a high-quality psychiatric service for adults with eating disorders, covering prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Maintain overall
clinical responsibility for patient care
, including Care and Treatment Plans, while appropriately delegating to and supporting the multidisciplinary team.
Work closely with colleagues across adult and CAMHS services to ensure continuity of care and smooth transitions.
Participate in the
1 in 20 on-call rota
with prospective cover, offering cross-site support when required.
Undertake domiciliary visits and consultations as clinically appropriate.
Engage in risk management, clinical governance, and audit to ensure safe, evidence-based practice.
Comply with Caldicott Principles, safeguarding procedures, and GMC standards of Good Medical Practice.
Education & Training
Provide teaching and supervision for medical students, foundation doctors, psychiatry trainees, and other healthcare professionals.
Act as
an Educational Supervisor
for junior doctors assigned to you, supporting their training and professional development.
Participate in local and regional postgraduate teaching programmes.
Contribute to undergraduate teaching, including clinical bedside teaching, assessments, and examinations when required.
Support multiprofessional education, ensuring collaborative learning across teams.
Research, Quality Improvement, and Service Development
Contribute to
service redesign, improvement projects, and pathway development
to ensure the service meets current and future needs.
Participate actively in
audit, quality improvement, and clinical research
in line with local and national priorities.
Support initiatives to integrate evidence-based practice and prudent healthcare principles into service delivery.
Person Specification

Qualifications
#
Essential
Complete GMC registration and licence to practice.
On GMC Specialist Register in Psychiatry or eligible for CCT within 6 months of interview.
MRCPsych (UK) or equivalent.

Desirable
Endorsement or CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or CAMHS.
Higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc, or equivalent).
Qualification in teaching or medical education.
Clinical Experience
#
Essential
Significant clinical experience in psychiatry, including eating disorders.
Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team working.
Experience in teaching and training medical students and/or junior doctors.
Demonstrated ability to lead clinical audits and implement service improvements.

Desirable
Experience in service development and commissioning.
Research experience with publications in psychiatry or eating disorders.
Experience in psychological therapies relevant to eating disorder care.
Previous Approved Clinician/Section 12 approval.
Skills and Abilities
