Location: Craven - Please note there is an expectation to travel and work within craven fire/police estates.






Salary: Grade 7 SCP 22 (31,364) plus 13.5% shift allowance






Contract: Permanent - Green Book






Shift Pattern:

9-week rotating shift - 3 early shifts 08:00 till 16:00, 3 late shifts 13:00 till 22:00 and then 3 days off (early shifts are 30 minutes shorter on Saturdays). Overall, this calculates to a 37-hour work week averaged out across 9 weeks.

We are proud to announce that we are looking to appoint a Public Safety Officer, to work in rural areas in the Craven area of North Yorkshire.



Public Safety Officers are uniformed individuals who represent North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, North Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service in rural areas. Each officer is trained in a range of skills that aim to protection individuals, families, and communities from a diverse range of harm for example, crime, antisocial behaviour, falls or a domestic fire in the home. These roles are hosted within the Prevention, Early Intervention and Safeguarding department of North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.



The role is a vocation in its own right. It provides a unique approach to resolving community safety matters by working collaboratively. You will be key to developing sustainable and strong working relationships with partners. The main aim is to keep our communities safe so they are less likely to need an acute response. Your responsibilities will include:



Attending calls made from the public to Yorkshire Ambulance Service which are appropriate for the roles level of training.


Dealing with Police safety matters that don't require an immediate emergency response. Delivering a range of practical harm reduction interventions. Promoting safety interventions and delivering education to a diverse range of community groups and individuals who have been identified as most at risk of harm. Completing multi-agency home safety visits. Resolving complex neighbourhood policing issues. Working with the local Anti-Social Behaviour caseworker. Integrating within the neighbourhood policing team. Assisting with completing neighbourhood enquiries (non-emergency 101 calls made to police).

The early intervention work that the Public Safety Officers carry out reduces demand and impact on the 3 emergency services, as well as reduce demand of key partners within the public, private, and voluntary sector, and their local communities.

Alongside being able to risk assess and problem solve key issues within the local community, the ideal candidate will also have:





Experience of encouraging other to learn and develop to maximize potential. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills with an ability to network, influence, and negotiate with partners and our communities, to deliver positive neighbourhood interventions in demanding situations. Adaptability and resilience, with the ability to deal effectively and calmly with conflict management, and challenging situations that may arise. Good team working skills both internally and with external partners, and an ability to integrate effectively into different cross-functional work teams. Self-motivation, with the ability to prioritise their workload, and work without close supervision. Public speaking skills / experience. Experience of designing, developing, and delivering learning and development sessions. An appropriate First Aid qualification would be desirable although not essential. However, if no formal training qualification is possessed there would be an expectation that the post holder would work towards this. Be willing to complete a DBS Check and Police Vetting
