Role Purpose

The Pump Manager will lead the company's Pump Division, ensuring exceptional delivery of reactive repair, maintenance, and servicing of wastewater and booster systems. This role combines hands-on technical knowledge with leadership and customer relationship management, providing day-to-day direction for engineers while supporting growth through service excellence and technical credibility.

Key Responsibilities1. Technical & Operational Management



Oversee all pump-related activities: installation, servicing, fault-finding of wastewater pumps and booster sets. Provide expert advice on system design, pump selection, and troubleshooting complex issues. Plan and deliver reactive and planned maintenance schedules to ensure efficiency and minimal downtime. Conduct site assessments, prepare technical reports, and ensure compliance with WRAS, H&S, and British Standards. Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers regarding technical specifications, parts, and warranty support.

2. Team Leadership & Development



Manage and mentor a team of field engineers and technicians, ensuring effective workload planning and high technical standards. Support training and upskilling of engineers to maintain competency across pump system types. Promote a positive, safety-driven team culture and conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings. Support recruitment and onboarding as the team grows.

3. Sales Growth & Business Development



Drive departmental growth through proactive sales and new client development. Identify and pursue new business opportunities across commercial, industrial, and facilities management sectors. Build relationships with new and existing clients to generate repeat work and referrals. Prepare and present quotations, tenders, and technical proposals that reflect client needs and operational capability. Attend client meetings and site visits to understand requirements and propose tailored pump solutions. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and service delivery. Represent the company at trade events and networking forums to raise profile and attract new business.

4. Quality, Safety & Compliance



Ensure full compliance with company policies, safety legislation, and industry standards. Oversee RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements) for all operational activities. Maintain accurate service reports, commissioning certificates, and documentation. Promote continuous improvement across processes, safety, and service quality.

Skills & Experience Required



Essential:



Proven technical experience with wastewater pumps and clean water booster sets. Hands-on background in pump installation, servicing, and maintenance. Previous experience managing or supervising a small team of engineers or service staff. Demonstrated success in sales growth or business development within an engineering environment. Strong understanding of pressure systems, controls, and mechanical/electrical integration. Excellent communication and client-facing skills. Commercial awareness with the ability to identify profitable opportunities.

o Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites as needed.



Desirable:



NVQ / City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Experience in commercial or industrial building services, water systems, or drainage sectors. Health & Safety qualifications (CSCS, IOSH, or SSSTS). Knowledge of CRM or service management software.
