Job Description

VTCT Skills is a leading vocational and technical awarding organisation, delivering high-quality qualifications and assessments across 17 diverse sectors from Hospitality and Catering, Hairdressing, Barbering and Beauty Therapy to Logistics and Early Years. As part of our continued growth, we are seeking experienced professionals to help shape the future of vocational education.


We are looking for Qualification and Assessment Development Specialists to join us on a flexible, zero-hours contract basis. This role is ideal for individuals who may want to share their expertise alongside their current commitments. You will play a key role in designing and developing qualifications and assessments that empower learners and meet regulatory standards.


Principal responsibilities




Contribute to the design and development of qualifications, assessment items, and support materials in line with regulatory requirements. Develop inclusive and innovative assessment items (e.g., assignment briefs, examination papers, practical assessments). Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure products are valid, reliable, and fit for purpose. Review and proofread content for clarity, accessibility, and compliance. Participate in training and standardisation activities as required. Work to agreed timelines and maintain a clear audit trail for all development activities.

Essential Criteria




Excellent English language and written communication skills. Experience in qualification and assessment development. Strong understanding of qualification and/or assessment design principles. Evidence of ongoing professional development. No conflicts of interest related to this role.

Desirable Criteria




Background in vocational education or training. Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., Ofqual, Skills England).
