SALARY: NEGOTIABLE (DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION)
JOB PURPOSE:
Within the authority limits delegated by the charity, to manage the Nursery, taking responsibility for the provision of childcare and early education, drop-in and advice services for parents, training and other opportunities for parents and the efficient and effective running of the nursery.
MAIN DUTIES:
1. To review and take lead responsibility for the implementation of the nursery's agreed business plan and for the management of people and resources.
2. To ensure the provision of nursery education and childcare to agreed quality standards, those standards reflecting the requirements of the Childcare Act 2006, the Children's Act 2004, the DfES Day Care Standards, the Special Needs Code of Practice, Health & Safety and any other relevant legislation as well as those prescribed by the Pre-school Learning Alliance.
3. To ensure that the nursery services are appropriately marketed in the local community and that appropriate action is undertaken to ensure that occupancy levels are maximised.
4. To liaise with parents/carers about children's needs, thus ensuring that the nursery has an accurate overview of - and commitment to - partnership with parents.
5. To co-ordinate drop-in, advice, learning and training opportunities for parents, or promote opportunities to parents for drop-in advice.
6. To manage staff on a day-to-day basis, convening staff meetings, organising in-service training and conducting supervision and appraisals as appropriate.
7. To manage volunteers, students on placements and work experience in the nursery.
8. To liaise with the Nursery Cook on menu planning ensuring the children receive a healthy, multi-cultural diet.
9. To be the lead person for child protection in the nursery and to ensure that any child protection concerns are acted upon immediately and appropriately.
10. To ensure accurate record-keeping including the completion of weekly reports on occupancy and staffing and complying with reporting requirements.
11. To be involved in the setting and maintenance of the Nursery's budget and responsible for the Nursery's accounting records, whilst complying with budgetary reporting requirements.
12. To take responsibility of managing the nursery education fund for two (where applicable), three and four year olds.
13. To prepare and complete grant funding applications and bids.
14. To liaise and work in partnership with other agencies, both statutory and voluntary, where appropriate.
15. To attend any conferences, training events or meetings, including residential's, as identified by the Line Manager and to keep up to date with current good practice.
16. To adhere to the nursery's policies and code of practice on confidentiality.
17. To adhere to and undertake the six criteria of Key Elements of Effective Practice.
18. To perform any other duties as deemed necessary by the Line Manager.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Criteria:
1. A minimum Level 3 management qualification or above in early years education and childcare.
2. A commitment to obtaining further qualifications as appropriate.
3. Proven experience in running or helping to run a similar service.
4. Strong leadership qualities and organisational skills to include the supervision of staff in all aspects of the effective running of provision.
5. A sound understanding of child development and children's needs with an ability to plan and implement an early years age/stage appropriate curriculum, taking into account the SEN Code of Practice, child protection procedures and equal opportunities' considerations.
6. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. This includes the ability to establish rapport and credibility with parents and the ability to produce clear, concise and well-written reports, e.g. for disciplinaries, business plans for recruitment purposes etc.
7. Ability to use Microsoft Office packages effectively and to produce reports and correspondence in a professional and accurate format.
8. Ability to prioritise own work and plan in advance for meetings etc.
9. Ability to build good partnership working relationships with staff.
10. Ability to communicate the need for quality and continuous improvement, and influences good practice through own example.
11. Ability to inspire people to deliver results, high standards and sets clear objectives for self and the team, taking appropriate and timely action to ensure targets are achieved.
12. Ability to support the development of his/her team through coaching, regular discussion and team meetings which encourage two way communication and sharing of ideas and expectations.
13. Ability to communicate in a variety of ways and with people at all levels, and adopts a communication method appropriate for the listener or audience.
14. Experience of effective staff management and objective setting, performance management (one-ones, appraisals, feedback).

1. Experience or knowledge of the voluntary sector.
