The Quality and Safety Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and enhancing both quality assurance and safety protocols within our sheet metal manufacturing operations. This role ensures that products meet the highest quality standards while maintaining a safe working environment. The Coordinator will collaborate closely with production teams, management, suppliers, and external auditors to drive continuous improvement, ensure compliance, and promote a culture of quality and safety across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance:
Ownership of Quality-Related Matters:
Supervise all internal and external quality-related issues, ensuring adherence to quality standards and specifications throughout the manufacturing process.
Inspection & Documentation:
Conduct regular inspections, maintain quality control procedures, and ensure documentation aligns with customer requirements and industry standards.
Continuous Improvement:
Work closely with production teams to address quality issues, implement corrective actions using tools like 8D, and drive process improvements to reduce waste and enhance product quality.
Supplier Quality:
Collaborate with Supplier Development to assess and improve the quality of incoming materials and services, ensuring compliance with set standards.
Data Management:
Maintain quality-related data, functional metrics, and oversee measurement equipment calibration and records.
Weld Certification:
Oversee and extend weld certifications to ensure ongoing compliance and safety.
Reporting & Audits:
Report monthly quality control statistics, support internal and external audits, and prepare documentation for ISO accreditation.
Safety Management:
Policy Implementation:
Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, regional, and national regulations.
Safety Inspections:
Conduct regular safety audits of the manufacturing facility, equipment, and processes to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
Training Programmes:
Coordinate and deliver safety training programmes, including new hire induction and ongoing regulatory updates, ensuring employees are well-informed of safety best practices.
Incident Management:
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; document findings, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Records Maintenance:
Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, training sessions, and inspections in accordance with legal requirements.
Regulatory Compliance:
Regulation Monitoring:
Stay updated on relevant quality and safety regulations, ensuring the company remains compliant at all times.
Report Preparation:
Prepare and submit necessary reports to regulatory agencies and management, serving as the primary contact for regulatory bodies, customers, and auditors on quality and safety matters.
Communication and Reporting:
Performance Metrics:
Regularly communicate quality and safety performance metrics to management and staff, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
Meetings Facilitation:
Lead quality and safety meetings, ensuring that key issues are addressed and resolved promptly.
Customer & Supplier Liaison:
Communicate with customers and suppliers to meet their quality and safety expectations and improve overall standards.
Skills and Competencies:
Technical Expertise:
Strong knowledge of quality and safety management systems, including ISO accreditation processes, Lean principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and experience with tools like 8D and 5Y.
Problem-Solving:
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and implement effective corrective actions.
Software Proficiency:
Proficient in using quality and safety management software and tools for monitoring and reporting.
Communication Skills:
Strong ability to train, influence, and collaborate with employees at all levels within the organisation.
Organisational Skills:
Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills, capable of handling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Core Responsibilities:
Engineering & Production Oversight:
Work closely with engineering to supervise dimensional inspection controls, create production plans, and ensure quality from stage one to completion.
Process Monitoring:
Monitor production processes and conduct quality control audits as required to ensure ongoing compliance and improvement.
FAIR Completion:
Oversee First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) to ensure all quality aspects are met before mass production.
Documentation & Compliance:
Oversee documentation for ISO accreditation, report on compliance, and sustain efficient methods for meeting quality and safety requirements.
Additional Duties:
Team Leadership:
Lead quality control within the team, including performance oversight, training, compliance, and coaching in collaboration with the Operations Manager and HR.
Continuous Education:
Stay updated on newly developing quality and safety procedures and techniques.
