About us

------------

The Department is located on its own campus in the beautiful Surrey Hills near Dorking. Surrounded by woodland, it is the UK's largest university space research group. Space science is a discipline that demands highly innovative technologies and the Department has an international reputation for excellence in this area. UCL was one of the first universities in the world to become involved in making scientific observations in space. Since the Department was established in 1966, it has participated in over 40 satellite missions with the European Space Agency, NASA (US), Japan, Russia, China and India, and flown over 230 rocket experiments.

About the role

------------------

The opportunity has arisen for a Quality Assurance Coordinator to join the Department of Space and Climate Physics (Mullard Space Science Laboratory), University College London (UCL). This is a rare opportunity to join a small team working in a fascinating industry.

This is a full-time post, fixed term for two years in the first instance with extension subject to funding.

You will work within the Product Assurance Group to support the design, manufacturing, assembly, testing and delivery of MSSL scientific instruments to be flown on ESA, NASA and other space agency spacecraft.

Good knowledge of the space industry and experience of the quality role in space or aeronautics is desired but an exception may be made for a promising candidate.

Given the extent of work in the Department you will not be expected to know all aspects of space instrument development. On the job training and excellent support will be given on aspects of the job you have not encountered before.

For informal enquires please contact Graham Willis (graham.willis@ucl.ac.uk)

See the attached job description and person specification for full details. When completing your supporting statement, please tell us, using examples, how you meet the essential criteria listed in the job description.

About you

-------------

The successful candidate should be educated to A Level (minimum of 2 at grade B or above), or equivalent in technical or science subjects. Knowledge or interest of the quality role in space, aerospace or a similar industry OR good knowledge of space, aerospace or a similar industry is essential. The postholder is expected to have knowledge of configuration control practices.

We are one of the few University groups that maintains all aspects of spacecraft instrument development in-house. Consequently, the QA Coordinator role is necessarily broad to support every aspect of instrument development and the successful candidate must be adaptable and able to quickly meet new challenges.
