Doncaster Cables - the UK's largest British-owned general wiring cable manufacturer - is looking for a
Quality Control Trainee
to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with an eye for detail, strong technical awareness, and a passion for maintaining the highest standards in cable manufacturing.
About the Role
As a Quality Control Trainee, you'll play a key part in ensuring our products meet strict quality standards and industry regulations, regulatory requirements, and our internal Quality Management System. Working closely with production teams, you'll carry out inspections and tests, maintain records, and support technical operations across the factory floor.
Key Responsibilities
Develop technical knowledge of cable manufacturing processes, testing methods, and quality standards - showing a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Inspect and test raw materials, in-process products, and finished cables against British/European/International Standards and certification requirements.
Ensure products meet any requirements of any third-party approval bodies. (e.g BASEC, UL, CSA.)
Conduct electrical, mechanical, and dimensional tests using specialist equipment.
Maintain accurate QC logs, calibration records, and test certificates for traceability.
Support the setup, calibration, and safe use of cable testing equipment.
Work alongside QC/production teams to identify defects, investigate root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
Assist in preparing documentation for audits, inspections, and customer requirements.
Promote best practices in quality, compliance, and health & safety across all activities.
What We're Looking For
Willingness to gain knowledge/experience in quality control, testing, and a technical support role.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording test data.
Basic understanding of electrical/mechanical testing equipment (training provided where needed).
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production teams.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
The ability to make sound, intuitive decisions when assessing test results or identifying quality issues - knowing when to take action independently and when to escalate.
