Job Purpose:

To support the force in gaining and maintaining UKAS accreditation across all departments that undertake forensic activity, ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Forensic Science Regulator.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience of working in an ISO 17025 or ISO 17020 quality management environment is required to understand the impact to the Force should accreditation not be gained.
  • Degree in a science subject and / or experience of working in a scientific environment.
  • Have a sound knowledge of forensic services to understand the requirements of the UKAS accreditations especially ISO 17020 & 17025 thus ensuring accreditation can be gained and maintained in the necessary fields.
  • Have a thorough knowledge ISO Quality Management systems and experience of International Standards and relevant guidance material such as BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005, ISO/IEC 17020:2012, ILAC G19 and Forensic Regulators Codes of Practice and Conduct.
  • Knowledge of the audit process to provide meaningful and viable audits under accreditation requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, in order to produce clear and concise documented procedures, processes, policies and reports and to be able to develop strong working relationships across different levels of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with people of all levels and demonstrate strong leadership in order to ensure requirements are met.
  • Good information handling skills with sound analytical and problem solving skills in order to manage varied and intense workloads whilst prioritising accreditation activities and managing the timelines set by the Forensic Regulator.
  • Ability to work under pressure to strict deadlines, whilst maintaining a good level of performance and demonstrating flexibility. Ability to effectively plan and coordinate projects and have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Possess excellent IT skills.
