The Quality Technician ensures that all customer and regulatory quality requirements are met within a fast-paced Contract Electronic Manufacturing Services (CEMS) environment. Operating under AS9100, NADCAP, IPC-A-610, and J-STD-001 frameworks, the technician supports manufacturing and operations teams in delivering defect-free, on-time, and compliant product. This role requires a detail-driven, proactive professional committed to "right-first time" quality and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
Product Quality & ComplianceInspect assemblies, PCBs, and electronic components against specifications and industry standards. Ensure compliance with AS9100, NADCAP, IPC-A-610, and J-STD-001 standards. Where required support Quality Control; Inspecting products at various stages of production, including First Offs, In-Process, Batch, and Final Inspection, ensuring conformance with AS9100/NADCAP standards and customer requirements. Maintain quality through all stages of manufacturing. Conduct DSQR releases as required. Maintain accurate defect recording logs. Ensure ESD and FOD protocols are always followed.

Documentation & ReportingGenerate and manage First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) per AS9102 and customer-specific requirements. Maintain accurate records for inspections, audits, and corrective actions. Aide with the preparation of monthly KPI reports related to defects, repairs, and process trends.

Auditing & StandardsConduct internal and external audits per the company's audit schedule. Support NADCAP and AS9100 audit readiness activities and corrective action closure. Lead/Assist in root cause investigations and reporting.

Training & MentorshipDeliver training on IPC and J-STD standards. Act as a subject matter expert for quality standards within assigned account teams and operations.

Customer & Cross-Functional SupportSupport Account Managers and the Quality Manager in customer communications and visits. Participate in quality reviews, warranty investigations, and corrective action validation. Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Repair teams to improve process control and product conformity.

Continuous ImprovementIdentify and lead or contribute continuous improvement projects. Recommend process enhancements to increase efficiency and reduce defects. Ensure all quality processes and improvements are fully documented and implemented.

General ResponsibilitiesComplete any additional duties or tasks as assigned by the Quality Manager.

Required Skills & Experience
EssentialQuality experience in a PCB or electronic manufacturing environment. Working knowledge and/or experience of creating FAIRs. Proven knowledge of AS9100 standards. Experience with conducting internal audits. Understanding of root cause analysis tools (8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone). Experience and working knowledge in a technical or engineering field. Able to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications. Comfortable with Microsoft Office and quality/ERP software. Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Self-motivated with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.

DesirablePrior experience in an aerospace or defence manufacturing organisation. Familiar with process improvement and lean techniques. Proficient in IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 requirements. Working knowledge of NADCAP. Trained internal auditor (or lead auditor). Experience of technical report writing.

Nationality Requirements
Candidates must be able to work in the UK without restrictions in accordance with UK National Law and be prepared to successfully undertake an appropriate level of UK National Security Vetting according to UK Government National Security Vetting criteria.
