About the Role



As we continue to grow and project sizes increase, we are looking for an office-based, commercially focused

Quantity Surveyor / Procurement Manager

to take ownership of estimating, procurement, and commercial management within our project-based environment.

This role sits at the heart of our operations, ensuring materials (steel, roofing systems, groundwork materials) and subcontracted services are procured at competitive market value while maintaining full commercial control and risk management.

Key Responsibilities



Estimating & Pre-Construction:

Produce accurate cost estimates and commercial tenders for new projects, ensuring all material, labour, and plant requirements are quantified to protect profit margins from the outset.

Commercial Control:

Maintain control over material and subcontract procurement for live projects.

Strategic Procurement:

Lead the tendering process, evaluating bids and technical submissions to ensure compliance and best value.

Negotiation:

Secure sustainable commercial outcomes by negotiating pricing, terms, and supply agreements.

Relationship Management:

Build and manage strong partnerships with suppliers and subcontractors who align with our high standards.

Reporting:

Maintain accurate records and develop commercial KPIs to provide insight to the wider business.

Additional Responsibilities



(As appropriate to contract size and in association with Project Managers)

Contract Administration:

Act as the commercial lead on project contracts (JCT/NEC or bespoke), managing notices, variations, and contractual correspondence.

Valuations & Payments:

Review and certify subcontractor payment applications, ensuring work is valued accurately against progress.

Final Accounts:

Lead the negotiation and settlement of final accounts with clients and subcontractors to protect project margins.

Requirements



Essential:



Technical Skills:

Ability to interpret architectural drawings and technical specifications.

Contractual Knowledge:

Familiarity with standard forms of contract (JCT/NEC).

Analytical Skills:

High attention to detail and strong Excel skills.

Negotiation:

A proven track record of professional negotiation with suppliers.

Background:

Experience in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management within construction, steel fabrication, or a project-based manufacturing business.

Education & Experience:



Required:

Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related Construction/Engineering discipline.

Industry Experience:

Experience in the construction sector is essential. A good understanding of steel fabrication/structures will be highly beneficial.

Project Style:

Experience managing multiple simultaneous smaller projects is desirable. A background in project management within this sector is also helpful.
