We are seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial team in the North East. This role will focus on delivering high-quality commercial management and cost control across non-NEC local authority projects, ensuring value for money while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance.
You will be responsible for managing project costs, supporting procurement activities, maintaining accurate financial reporting, and working collaboratively with project teams, subcontractors, and local authority stakeholders.
What you'll be doing
As a Quantity Surveyor you will have the following responsibilities:
+ Manage and monitor all project costs and income within your area of responsibility on building and civil engineering projects.
+ Provide accurate measurement, valuation, and reporting of works.
+ Prepare bills of quantities, cost reconciliations, and schedules of rates in line with non-NEC contractual requirements.
+ Procure, appoint, and manage subcontractors and supply chain partners.
+ Support and mentor junior commercial staff, including apprentices, where required.
+ Ensure compliance with company governance requirements, processes, and systems.
+ Contribute to financial forecasting, cost planning, and cash flow management.
+ Engage proactively with internal stakeholders and external local authority representatives.
+ Assist in the management of change, delay, and disruption impacts on projects.
+ Maintain professional standards through Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Who we're looking for
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent experience).
Proven experience in commercial management on building/civil engineering projects.
Experience working on non-NEC contracts, ideally within the public/local authority sector.
Strong understanding of cost control, measurement, and procurement processes.
CSCS Card (Academically/Professionally Qualified).
Professional membership (MRICS, MCInstCES, MCIOB) or working towards.
Desirable:
Experience of using ERP/digital systems for cost management.
Knowledge of local authority governance and reporting processes.
Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
