We are seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to join our team at Armstrong Aggregates Ltd. In this role, you are someone who is skilled in operating excavators.
Responsibilities
Operate excavators safely and efficiently in quarry settings
Excavate and move materials as directed by site supervisors
Operating heavy equipment: as an excavator operator. You will operate various types of excavators depending on the job requirements
Writing reports: as an excavator operator, you write reports and prepare documentation associated with your work
Operating the machinery safely and securely
Carrying out excavator inspections to ensure good functioning
Digging foundations and levelling the ground
Carrying out operations that lift large volumes of material
Fitting various ancillary equipment to the excavator and operating it
Understanding and interpreting technical drawings and plans
Demolishing any existing structure
Digging trenches
Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment to ensure optimal performance
Follow safety protocols and regulations at all times during operations
Collaborate with other team members to coordinate excavation activities
Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials handled
Requirements
Proven experience operating excavators
Strong mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot equipment issues
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
Commercial driving experience is a plus but not mandatory
Commitment to safety practices in a quarry environment
Level 2 Certificate in Construction Plant Operations or a Level 3 diploma in Construction and the Built Environment. (desirable)
Plant operator and specialise in excavator operations (Required)

A thorough knowledge of the excavator's operation is crucial. You need to understand the machine, its parts, and how to use it safely and efficiently. This involves multiple tasks, from digging, lifting and disposing of materials while maintaining stability and safety
Blueprints guide the entire construction operation. You'll need to interpret these blueprints accurately to know where to dig, how deep to go, and where to pile up the soil or other materials you excavate
Probably one of the most crucial keys to being a successful excavator operator is having a thorough knowledge of safety regulations and implementing them without fail
