The Vale of Rheidol Railway is looking for a new team member to join the Permanent Way team to help maintain the railway's infrastructure for future generations of visitors to enjoy.
Responsibilities
Assist Permanent Way Supervisor in carrying out maintenance tasks.
Carry out annual programme of strimming, weed killing and cutting back of railway's lineside.
Operate tele-handler when required, primarily to load/unload work trains.
Drive maintenance trains and operate rail mounted plant when required to aid in maintenance tasks.
Assist with track inspection regime
Look after railway facilities to uphold standards for our visitors.
Assist with the annual winter maintenance schedule to relay approximately one mile of track each year.
Carry out operational duties including guarding or firing when required.
Person Specifications:
Enjoys working outdoors at all times of the year.
Good attention to detail and problem solving skills.
Self-motivated and adaptable.
Good team player.
Takes pride in their work.
Familiarity with health and safety regulations related to maintenance work.
Previous experience in a similar role is advantageous but not essential.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.
Having the relevant qualifications and experience for the above roles will be advantageous but the railway acknowledges this is a broad spectrum and will provide training to the right candidate to bridge qualification and knowledge gaps.
