The Jobholder is primarily responsible for performing routine and non-routine analytical work to defined procedures.
The Jobholder is also responsible day to day for ensuring that their activities are performed to appropriate levels of quality and traceability and in accordance with health and safety procedures.
The main purpose of this role is to perform testing of inhaler samples (Metered Dose Inhalers and Dry Powder Inhalers) using cascade impactors, dose uniformity sampling apparatus and other inhaler testing equipment, and analysing the samples using HPLC. The role also involves processing, compilation, and interpretation of inhaler testing data as per the IPTC laboratory procedures in a timely manner.

Laboratory Analysis
Preparation and Testing of analytical samples in accordance with the appropriate procedures and analytical methods.
Ensuring that all work is performed to an issued Protocol adhering to current IPTC procedures and completing the work in a timely manner.
Routine analysis of sample solutions by HPLC.
Training others in the techniques, standard procedures and methods used in inhaler testing.
Working to approved Analytical Test Methods (ATMs) where applicable.
Assisting in the development and validation of analytical methods where required Documentation
Writing and checking of IPTC Study Protocols and IPTC Standard Work Instructions, within area of expertise.
Processing and compilation of inhaler and component test data.
Checking of raw, processed or compiled inhaler and component test data.
Writing and checking of IPTC Study Reports
Maintaining accurate records and submitting records to other analysts for technical review.
Writing and updating Analytical Test Methods (ATMs) as appropriate.
Personal Organisation and Development
Managing own workload and prioritising activities using the available resources to ensure activities are completed on schedule and to an appropriate standard.
Completion of timesheets in a timely manner, to record the relative utilisation of resources across multiple projects.
Developing an understanding of the testing of inhalation devices: Metered Dose Inhalers (MDIs) and Dry Powder Inhalers (DPIs).
The Jobholder will be willing to further their personnel development and will attend training courses and learning events as necessary.
The Jobholder will present scientific and technical learnings internally and contribute to external publications as required.
Laboratory Systems
Participating in 5S Audits and other operational improvement exercises as appropriate and completing the actions associated with the audits. 19. Ensuring that analytical equipment in the IPTC laboratory is maintained correctly and show a good level of knowledge of equipment handling and upkeep.
Education / Training
Educated to at least Bachelor's Degree level in a relevant scientific discipline e.g. Chemistry, Pharmaceutical or Life Sciences.
Experience
2-3 years' experience of working in a pharmaceutical or similar laboratory setting is desirable.
A good working knowledge of HPLC, including software, e.g. Chromeleon, Empower or equivalent.
Experience of workplace organisation systems, e.g. 5S.
Knowledge
A good working knowledge of laboratory testing.
Good basic knowledge of inhaler technology and inhaler testing techniques would be preferred.
A good working knowledge of word processing and data analysis software, including Microsoft Excel and Word, and statistical packages such as JMP, Minitab or equivalent.
